A small-caliber ammunition is disclosed. The small-caliber ammunition includes a casing and a frangible projectile located within the casing. The frangible projectile includes a metal inert capsule and a reactive material (RM) pellet embedded within the metal inert capsule. The top surface of the RM pellet flushes with the top surface of the metal inert capsule. The casing contains a smokeless propellant and a primer for igniting the smokeless propellant.

Dynamic hardened target layer and void detector sensor for use with a warhead or projectile penetrator

Hardened target sensors and systems are described herein. An example system includes a projectile defining an ogive, a body, and a base. The body of the projectile is arranged between the ogive and the base. The system includes a sensor assembly including a nose member and a plurality of strain gauges. The nose member defines a nose portion, a shaft, portion, and a threaded portion. The strain gauges are attached to the shaft portion. The system includes a shroud member, which is mechanically coupled with the sensor assembly and the body. The system further includes a smart fuze arranged within the body. The smart fuze is operably coupled to the strain gauges. The strain gauges measure the compression/tension of the shaft portion, which is part of the nose member. The load measured by the strain gauges can be used to detect hardened target layers and/or voids.

Shock mitigation assembly for a penetrating weapon

A shock mitigation assembly for a penetrating explosive weapon having a first explosive charge and a second explosive charge includes an electronic circuit card having an electronic circuit formed therein, a weight attached to the circuit card to form a circuit card subassembly, a housing enclosing the subassembly, and a hyperelastic material between the housing and the subassembly for internal shock mitigation. The hyperelastic material has a modulus of elasticity that remains elastic characteristics with shock, temperature, or a combination of shock and temperature. The housing may include a casing and a cover with corresponding features that mate with one another and prevent separation of the cover from the casing. The casing also may have an external spiral flange that overlaps an internal spiral flange of a support for the casing, with a hyperelastic material between the casing and support for external shock mitigation.

WARHEAD FOR GENERATING A BLAST ON AN EXTENDED REGION OF A TARGET SURFACE
20170343329 · 2017-11-30 ·

The present invention relates to warheads with blast wave conditioners and in particular to devices for quickly removing a door to permit entry through the doorway. It discloses a device and method of shaping the pressure wave pattern by the use of inert material. The inert material of the present invention is used to reduce localized directional effects occurring at the point of impact, instead generating a more diffuse pressure-wave pattern across the target surface.

MULTI-WARHEAD MUNITION WITH CONFIGURABLE SEGMENTED WARHEAD
20170299358 · 2017-10-19 ·

A multi-warhead munition includes a first cylindrical warhead having a cavity filled with high explosive, and a second cylindrical warhead offset axially from the first cylindrical warhead. The second cylindrical warhead is a transformable, segmented warhead including a plurality of segments each having an outer segment face bounding a cavity of the segment filled with high explosive. The segments are elongated and mounted at one end for rotation away from an axis of the munition to an open position in which the segment faces are pointed in a forward direction for detonation. Rotation may generally be somewhere in a broad range from about 105 degrees to about 170 degrees, obtaining different effects in different sub-ranges. The munition includes first and second detonators for the first and second cylindrical warheads respectively, the second detonator simultaneously detonating the segments of the second cylindrical warhead.

PROGRAMMABLE SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR A MUNITION

According to a first aspect of the invention, there is provided a programmable system for a munition, comprising: an electroacoustic transducer, arranged to receive an acoustic signal comprising data, and convert that signal into an electrical signal comprising data; a processor, arranged to receive and process the electrical signal comprising data, and to use that data in programming of the programmable system.

Fragmentation munition with limited explosive force

A fragmentation munition has a fragmentation canister containing preformed fragments, and an explosive cartridge that fits into a central hole in the fragmentation canister. The explosive cartridge includes an outer shell, and an explosive within the outer shell. The munition may be configured to precisely deliver fragments to a relatively small area, such as an area that is a few meters in radius. Toward that end the explosive may be configured primarily to rupture the housing and secondarily to spread fragments over a limited area. The main kinetic energy of the fragments is from the acceleration they gain as part of the munition falls from a launcher, such as a carrier aircraft. The dispersed fragments may have a similar downward velocity after controlled dispersal by the explosive, allowing them considerable kinetic energy (considerable penetrating power), but with a precisely controlled dispersal area.

Munition modification kit and method of modifying munition

An existing munition may be modified, using a modification kit, to provide enhanced fragmentation effects. The munition may be enclosed in an airframe, which also contains preformed fragments, and one or more adapters may be used to provide connections through the airframe. The adapters may be used to substitute for types of connectors already on the existing munition. The adapters may include one or more of an adapter for coupling a tail kit to a tail of the munition, an adapter for coupling a nose kit to a nose of the munition, and an adapter for coupling lugs to the munition. The adapters may engage couplers on the munition, and/or may engage the airframe. The modification of the existing munition may transform the existing munition into a fragmentation weapon, for example usable for height-of-burst detonation to spread fragments over a large area.

Arming generator relocator adaptor

The present disclosure generally relates to an improved penetrator design and associated arming generator relocator adaptor. In some embodiments, the arming generator relocator adaptor is positioned external to the penetrator, thereby removing the need to mount the FZU inside the warhead or include traditional internal plumbing. The arming generator relocator adaptor allows the FZU to be rotated to an optimal position to arm the penetrator. While the improved penetrator design and arming generator relocator adaptor can be used independently of each other, in the preferred embodiment, they are utilized together.
