Piston actuated extended range projectile with segmented slip band

A projectile delivers a pellet payload to an increased range with increased accuracy. A two piece aerodynamically stable pusher consists of a body and tailpiece. This pusher fits into a standard 40 mm cartridge case by means of three sabots. To seal against combustion gases, a three piece split rotating band is employed.

Pyrotechnic delayed extended range shotgun munition

A two piece aerodynamic pusher consisting of a body and tailpiece. This pusher fits into a standard 40 mm cartridge case by means of three sabots. After the cartridge case is functioned, the combustion gases push the projectile forward and ignite a delay column located in the rear of the pusher. Upon muzzle exit, the sabots discard and the pusher continues down range as the delay column burns. Once the delay has burned, a charge located in the pusher body is ignited, pushing the payload out of the front of the projectile. The cap pops off, and the pellets are dispersed. This effectively moves the payload release point from the muzzle until a designated point down range based on the delay length.

Drag separating reduced dispersion pusher

A sub-projectile carrier which uses aerodynamic drag to delay the release of a payload in a tailorable manner to control the spread of the payload over a desired range. A 40 mm shotgun style cartridge is shown for use for counter unmanned aerial systems, and for short range anti-personnel applications.

Spin discarding multiple projectile sabot

An ammunition round for simultaneously launching multiple penetrators enclosed with a single composite sabot, without any nesting or physical contact between the penetrators. The composite sabot has petals which are engraved by the tube's rifling during launch to rotate the petals, without presence of a separate rotating band element. The petals are separated from the penetrator elements upon exit from the gun tube solely by centrifugal forces acting on the petals.

Stackable kinetic energy ring cartridge

A projectile which can be used to defeat an unmanned aerial system. The projectile features sabots which do not impart any forward impedance to the sub-projectiles, and carries a payload of stacked rings enclosed in the projectile. The rings are backed by a support ring, and abut a pusher aft section. The projectile's sabots discard cleanly upon muzzle exit, releasing the ring sub-projectiles to cover a large area, thereby increasing the probability of impacting the target. The rings create large holes in the target, despite comparatively low mass of a given ring as a defeat element, allowing for multiple sub-projectiles to be fired with a single shot, thereby creating the effect of firing multiple projectiles with a single shot.

An invention for using commonly available weaponry, namely shotguns or larger caliber cannons, for the control of drones and other projectiles by use of an ammunition containing aerodynamically designed series of sub-projectiles linked together by high tensile strength web in such a manner as to expand to the predetermined maximum size immediately upon exiting the barrel of the weapon and continuing along a steady and predictable flight path to the target while maintain the shape of the web to provide the most consistent interception pattern increasing the odds of success.

A sabot assembly includes a housing defining an interior space and a plurality of projectiles and received in the interior space. The interior space is at least partially defined by a plurality of concavities, each of which is configured to receive a respective projectile. The housing is configured to separate and fall away once the sabot assembly is fired through a gun barrel, thereby releasing the projectiles from the interior space toward a target prior to impact of the sabot assembly with the target.
