Portable apparatus and method for disposing of explosive devices

A portable apparatus for incinerating matter in situ includes a container defining an open base and an interior incineration chamber. The open base has a perimeter lying in a single plane. A plurality of ignitable incendiary devices are mounted in the interior incineration chamber above the open base and around a perimeter of the interior incineration chamber. The ignitable incendiary devices are oriented such that flames produced by the incendiary devices are directed inwardly towards a central axis of the incineration chamber. The incendiary devices surround and point toward the matter to be incinerated.

Device and process for the destruction of chemical warfare agents

A device for destroying a chemical agent is described. The device includes a self-contained, portable pressure vessel which is dimensioned to accommodate an artillery shell, and a heat-generating component within the pressure vessel. The heat-generating component is capable of providing a pyrolytic, exothermic reaction capable of destroying the chemical agent and artillery shell. A process for destroying a chemical agent which includes placing a chemical artillery shell within the pressure vessel, securing the pressure vessel closed, and igniting the heat-generating component inside the pressure vessel to generate a pyrolytic, exothermic reaction capable of destroying the chemical agent and artillery shell is also described.

ADJUSTABLE STAND FOR HOLDING A LIQUID EXPLOSIVE
20170299348 · 2017-10-19 ·

A low-cost, reliable and easy to use kit for neutralizing surface exposed landmine and unexploded ordnance for humanitarian demining is based on a liquid fuel and a solid/soluble fuel. Both fuels are premeasured in separate, sealed containers. The addition of a small quantity of solid/soluble fuel into the liquid creates an explosive. The resulting mixture is capable of detonating with a standard No. 8 blasting cap. The solid/soluble fuel can be in the form of a powder, tablet, or its saturated solution in water. The solid/soluble fuel is hexamethylenetetramine. The liquid fuel, nitromethane, is provided in premeasured quantities. User is provided instructions for choosing the appropriate quantity of liquid fuel, the corresponding solid/soluble fuel required, the method of mixing, placement and detonation of the kits. Also disclosed is a simple wooden stand to hold the bottle of explosive in place. A special fuel, liquid 2-ethylhexylnitrate, is provided to desensitize the mixed and sensitized explosive.

Alternative method for dismantling solid-propellant motors

A method is provided for solid-propellant engines to be dismantled safely and in accordance with environmental standards having been scrapped. For each engine to be dismantled, it is mounted on a static test rig, immersed in a tank filled with water and started such that propellant is used up under the water. The soluble part of the combustion products (gases or condensates) thus remains trapped in the water in the tank while the non-soluble solid products drop to the bottom of the tank. The body of the engine emptied of its fuel in this way and rendered pyrotechnically inert is then taken apart or disassembled. Periodically, the water in the tank is withdrawn and the tank stripped of its deposits such that subsequent dismantling operations can be carried out under proper conditions. All of the combustion products recovered are sent to appropriate reprocessing plants. The method allows high dismantling rates.

MOBILE DEFUSING CHAMBER

A delaboration chamber has an outer housing that can be sealed by a removable cover. The delaboration chamber has an inner floor. A first chamber region is formed underneath the inner floor by the inner floor and the outer housing. The first chamber region is filled with a flowable or solid medium. The inner floor has a recess for receiving an explosive object. The cover is connected to the outer housing in a shockproof manner. The cover has a pressure relief that has at least one deflection for the detonation gases.

A variable stand-off distance explosive cord assembly for a casing is disclosed. In various embodiments, the assembly includes an explosive cord configured for positioning at a stand-off distance from the casing and a thermally responsive material configured to vary the stand-off distance from a first distance to a second distance.

Cartridge For Rendering A Firearm Inoperative

A firearm cartridge includes a thermite charge and a thermite bullet. Upon ignition, the thermite charge is ignited by the primer. The bullet, instead of being propelled down the barrel, is also ignited by the thermite charge. The ignition of the thermite charge is commenced by the firing pin of the gun striking the primer. Upon ignition, the thermite charge ignites the bullet. The ignited thermite charge and bullet melt firearm components that are located adjacent to the chamber, and/or weld themselves to the chamber, rendering the firearm unusable.
