Smart Ammunition
20220373285 · 2022-11-24 ·

A smart round of ammunition includes a casing, a primer disposed at a bottom portion of the casing, a projectile mounted at a top portion of the casing and a propellant disposed within an interior portion of the casing between the projectile and primer. The primer includes a piezo generator transducing a mechanical force received at a firing pin portion of the primer into a stored charge, a switch coupling and decoupling a spark gap between the stored charge and the propellant, and a wireless sensor activating the switch responsive to a digital signal received from a component external to the casing. The activation permits a discharge of the stored charge into the spark gap and therefore detonates the propellant.

FUZE FOR A PROJECTILE INTENDED TO BE FIRED BY A CANNON
20220357140 · 2022-11-10 · ·

A fuze for a projectile intended to be fired by a cannon by ignition of a propellant charge using an electric igniter. This fuze is allowed to pass from a safety position to an armed position following the fire by releasing at least two different safeties. This fuze includes a capacitor which is intended to be connected to the electric igniter and which charges during the ignition of the propellant charge, and also a computer which detects the charge of the capacitor in order to allow the arming of the fuze when this charge is greater than or equal to a reference value, the charge of the capacitor constituting a first fire safety.

Shock tube event validation

A detonator which is initiated by a shock tube event which is validated if a processor determines that a fusible link was not fused by a shock tube event at a predetermined time interval before light generated by the shock tube event is detected.

High voltage explosive assembly for downhole detonations
09851191 · 2017-12-26 · ·

A downhole explosive detonation comprises a high voltage electro-explosive initiator comprising an input high voltage power supply with a low impedance shunting fuse, a flexible electrical link and a capacitor discharge unit. Explosive is initiated in a direction approximately parallel, or in another version perpendicular to the capacitor discharge unit. A unique configuration and construction of the assembly allows installation through a small service port in the gun housing structure for more efficient gun arming. A real time downhole voltage monitoring is described that transmits voltage readings to the surface during a firing sequence.

Electronic ignition circuit

An electronic ignition circuit for use with a fuse head may include a microcontroller, a firing capacitor operably coupled to the fuse head, a voltage measuring circuit operably coupled to the microcontroller and configured to measure a voltage across the firing capacitor, and a switch operably coupled to the microcontroller, the switch being provided in series with the fuse head and a ground. The microcontroller may be configured control the voltage measuring circuit to measure a first voltage across the firing capacitor, actuate the switch to discharge the firing capacitor across the fuse head in response to a firing signal, control the voltage measuring circuit to measure a second voltage across the firing capacitor, and output a shot detection signal based on the first voltage and the second voltage.
