APPARATUS AND SYSTEM FOR MEASURING DIMENSIONS OF FREIGHT ITEMS
An apparatus for measuring a dimension of a freight item. The apparatus includes an elongate gauge member having a sequence of machine-readable codes visible along its length. Each of the machine-readable codes represents a length value corresponding to a position along the gauge member. The apparatus also includes a marker device, movable along the gauge member, for designating a selected position. The marker device includes a machine-readable reference symbol on an external surface thereof, with the reference symbol being located on the marker device such that in use the reference symbol on the marker device and a subset of the machine-readable codes on the gauge member are simultaneously visible. In a preferred embodiment the elongate gauge member includes a coilable tape and the marker device includes a housing within which the coilable tape is enclosed. A system including the measuring apparatus together with a mobile computing device is also disclosed.
SHOE SIZE MEASUREMENT DEVICES AND METHODS
A measurement device that allows all users to conveniently and discreetly determine appropriate general footwear measurements at any age is disclosed. The device may include a housing having a contact edge configured to receive the heel or a first side edge of the user's foot, a retractable tape configured to extend outwardly from the housing, and a toe flange proximate the distal end of the retractable tape that is configured to receive the toe or a second side edge of the user's foot. The retractable tape may have indicia of barleycorn units of measurement that can easily be used to determine footwear sizes (length and width) in English speaking countries.

DEVICE FOR TAKING A MEASUREMENT
A device for taking a measurement of a dimension of a part of the body of a patient, includes: an electronic tape measure having a portable housing, a winder accommodated in the housing, a tape which is partially wound on the winder and of which a portion, called the “unwound portion”, extends outside the housing, and a measuring module for a measurement, relative to the unwound portion; a consistency control module for checking the consistency of the measurement by at least one consistency rule and at least one context datum; and an alert module for delivering an alert if an inconsistency is detected by the consistency control module.
Position-measuring device
A position-measuring device includes a first assembly and a second assembly. The first assembly, installable on a first object, has a profiled element that bears a scale having a first and second measuring graduation. The second assembly, installable on a second object, has a first scanning unit that is movable along a travel path in a measuring direction to scan the first measuring graduation. A position of the first object relative to the second object is therefore measurable. A second scanning unit is mounted on the profiled element so as to enable the second measuring graduation to be scanned, and is positioned in a way that allows the first scanning unit to traverse collision-free along the travel path at a distance spaced apart from the second scanning unit orthogonally to the measuring direction such that a displacement of the scale relative to the first object is measurable.
Optical readout device to provide visual information
An optical readout device for providing visual circumference and diameter readings of an object being measured by a linear tape. The tail end of the tape passes by a reader element in a digital device which is equipped electronically with the pi conversion factor to provide selective readings of diameter in English and metric units, as well as circumference readings. The device can be employed for external (outside) and internal (inside) measurements.

Device and method for determining and comparing distances between balls in the game of bocce
Device and method for determining and comparing distances between balls in the game of bocce in which a marker block is magnetically attached to a measuring tape in a position corresponding to the distance between a first thrown ball and a target ball, and the tape with the marker attached is then used to compare that distance with the distance between a second thrown ball and the target ball to determine which of the two thrown balls is closer to the target ball.
Measuring Device
A measuring device for use with a laser level includes a measuring tape. A section of the measuring tape is substantially transparent and thus allows passage of a laser beam that is emitted by a laser level. Indicia of the measuring tape indicate a distance of the laser beam from a terminus of the measuring tape.
