Systems provided include laser interferometry systems comprising: a laser emitter configured to emit a laser beam; a beam splitter configured to split the emitted laser beam into a first split beam directed towards a deflector and a second split beam, wherein the first split beam comprises a first beam diameter and a second beam diameter, the first beam diameter being greater than the second beam diameter, and the second split beam comprises a third beam diameter and a fourth beam diameter, the third split beam diameter being greater than the fourth beam diameter; and a deflector configured to deflect the first split beam to intersect with the first split beam, wherein the first beam diameter and the third beam diameter are parallel.

The optical arrangement also comprises at least one minor (111) positioned so that light from the means for beam shaping is incident on the at least one minor. The invention teaches spatially filtering the reference beam of the OCT system which is typically designed to provide isolation of the optical source from undesirable optical feed-back, thereby achieving spatial filtering without generating undesirable reflections back to the optical source. An optical coherence tomography (OCT) system for profilometry measurements of a specimen with a lateral resolution across the profilometry measurements is provided. The OCT system includes a line-field generator, an interferometer, and a spectrometer. The line-field generator includes a filter arranged in a focal plane of a lens for spatially filtering extended line-field light into a line-field light of a width equal to the lateral resolution. The interferometer is configured to interfere the line-field light reflected from the specimen illuminated with a line-shaped focus with a reference signal of the line-field light to produce an interference pattern. The spectrometer configured to analyze spectral components of the interference pattern in a digital domain to produce the profilometry measurements of the specimen.
