Systems and methods are disclosed and include a needle control module that includes a processor configured to execute instructions stored in a nontransitory computer-readable medium, a motor driver circuit in communication with the needle control module, the motor driver circuit controlling a stepper motor attached to a needle, and a housing enclosing the needle control module, the motor driver circuit, and the stepper motor, the housing being physically attached to a display of a vehicle. In response to the needle control module receiving a signal representing vehicle state information, the needle control module is configured to instruct the motor driver circuit to control movement of the stepper motor and adjust a position of the needle based on the signal.

A battery powered device includes a battery and a motor controller that is coupled to the battery. A motor is operably coupled to the motor controller. The motor controller is configured to detect an amount of available power from the battery and engage the motor based on the amount of available power.

A pulley serving as a rotary body and a scale configured to rotate integrally with the pulley are attached to an end portion of the pulley serving as the rotary body in a thrust direction, a detection unit is configured to detect rotation of the pulley serving as the rotary body by reading a reading region of the scale. An absorber capable of absorbing liquid is attached to a surface of the scale on which a reading region is present, and when liquid adheres to the scale, the absorber absorbs the liquid.

A gauge device is provided and includes an analog display to signify a measured valued, a motor and worm gear arrangement which is configured to retain a current state of the analog display when de-energized or to change the analog display when energized and a control system. The control system is configured to normally de-energize the motor and worm gear arrangement and to energize the motor and worm gear arrangement only in accordance with a calculated state of the analog display differing from the current state by at least a threshold level.
