Side-scan infrared imaging devices
Infrared imaging devices are provided which are configured to implement side-scan infrared imaging for, e.g., medical applications. For example, an imaging device includes a ring-shaped detector element comprising a circular array of infrared detectors configured to detect thermal infrared radiation, and a focusing element configured to focus incident infrared radiation towards the circular array of infrared detectors. The imaging device can be an ingestible imaging device (e.g., swallowable camera) or the imaging device can be implemented as part of an endoscope device, for example.

Temperature Measurement by Infrared Analysis
A device for detecting infrared radiation emanating from a subject while not in physical contact with the subject. The device includes a body, an infrared sensor located in the body oriented to receive the infrared radiation and to generate at least one output that corresponds to the received infrared radiation, a rangefinder located in the body to generate at least one output that corresponds to a distance between the device and the subject, an ambient sensor to determine ambient temperature and to generate at least one output that corresponds to the ambient temperature, an analog to digital converter in communication with the infrared sensor, the rangefinder, and/or the ambient sensor, to receive the at least one output, a processor in communication with the analog to digital converter, the infrared sensor, the rangefinder, and/or the ambient sensor to process an output of the analog to digital converter, the at least one output of the infrared sensor, the at least one output of the rangefinder, and/or the at least one output of the ambient sensor, into a computed temperature of the subject. The processor adjusts the computed temperature based on the ambient temperature and the distance between the device and the subject corresponding to a maximum computed temperature of the subject. The device includes a display to show the temperature of the subject that is based at least in part on the computed temperature.

Calibration of a thermal imaging device for a surface cooking appliance
A thermal imaging system for a cooking appliance is capable of being calibrated for any arrangement of cooktop burners disposed on a surface of a cooking appliance. A thermal imaging system can be calibrated by processing a received thermal scan of a surface of a cooking appliance having a particular cooktop arrangement to identify a plurality of cooktop burners on the surface of the cooking appliance for the particular arrangement, determine a number of cooktop burners in the particular arrangement, and determine one or more locations of the cooktop to assign to each of the cooktop burners. Further, the determined one or more locations assigned to each of the cooktop burners can be stored in association with a respective cooktop burner. Once calibrated, the thermal imaging system can calculate a temperature for each of the cooktop burners to be used in performing subsequent control and/or safety functions.
