The electromechanical sensor generates a beginning signal when the point begins to be part of the flat tire contact patch of the tire with the ground, and an ending signal when this point ceases to be part of the patch. The microprocessor calculates the patch contact time period, calculates the flat tire contact patch length from the radius of the tire and the ratio between the patch contact time period and the complete tire rotation period, and calculates the load on the tire from the tire pressure as measured by the pressure sensor and the length of the flat tire contact patch.

A wireless tire pressure monitoring system and a method for operating the tire pressure monitoring system to locate each wireless tire pressure sensor. The wireless host is connected to the wireless receiver. Each wireless tire pressure sensor sends info to the wireless host and the wireless receiver. The wireless host and the wireless receiver allocate the positions of the wheels where the wireless tire pressure sensors are installed by the info received from wireless tire pressure sensors. The wireless receiver analyses and calculates the received info, and forwards the result to the wireless host to process a cross-comparison to precise allocate the positions of the wireless tire pressure sensors. The method does not need to replace or add new wireless tire pressure sensors, and does not need to obtain new serial numbers. The positions of the wireless tire pressure sensor are precisely allocated by the method of the present invention.

A load estimation system for a tire is provided. The tire includes a pair of sidewalls extending to a circumferential tread and supports a vehicle. A sensor is mounted to the tire and measures an inflation pressure of the tire and a footprint length of the tread. A vehicle loading state estimator determines a loading state of the vehicle. An inflation correction factor is determined from the vehicle loading state. A pressure correction module receives the measured footprint length, the measured inflation pressure, and the inflation correction factor, and determines an adjusted footprint length. A de-noising module processor receives the adjusted footprint length to generate a filtered footprint length, and a wear correction module receives the filtered footprint length and corrects for wear of the tire to generate a wear-corrected footprint length. A load determination model receives the wear-corrected footprint length and determines an estimated load on the tire.

TIRE POSITION DETERMINATION SYSTEM

A tire position determination system provided in a vehicle including a first tire and a second tire includes an initiator that transmits a command signal, a first detector attached to the first tire, a second detector attached to the second tire, and a monitoring unit. A distance between the first tire and the initiator is equal to or shorter than a distance between the second tire and the initiator. Each of the first detector and the second detector includes an acceleration sensor. A detection signal includes a detection value from the acceleration sensor. The monitoring unit performs determination processing for determining a position of the first tire and a position of the second tire based on positional relation between the detector and the initiator estimated from the detection value from the acceleration sensor.

The invention relates to a method for detecting the underflation state of a tire fitted on a vehicle, the method comprising the following steps: the step of determining a first contact patch measurement of a first tire fitted on the vehicle, the step of determining a second contact patch measurement of a second tire fitted on the vehicle, the step of comparing the first and second contact patch measurements and of inferring an underinflation situation therefrom if the difference between the two measurements is greater than a predetermined signalling threshold.
