The contoured sensing insert includes an outer sensing insert having an open interior through-hole and a top contoured surface configured to be secured at least partially within the fluid flow container. The top contoured surface has a surface contour corresponding with an interior wall contour of the fluid flow container. The contoured sensing insert also includes an inner sensing medium defined within the through-hole of the outer sensing insert. The inner sensing medium defines a conforming contoured surface at least substantially matching the surface contour of the top contoured surface. A corresponding method of manufacturing is also provided.

Each of the detection channel portions includes a first bulging portion and an opposing second bulging portion. A plate member is aligned with the second bulging portion, and a deformation preventative member is aligned with the first bulging portion. The plate member may move with the second bulging portion, while the deformation preventative member prevents deformation of the first bulging portion.

The second major side faces outwardly away from the chamber, and the pod has ports on sides of the chamber. The internal surfaces of the chamber and ports are shaped such that any contour following the internal surfaces to the outside of one of the ports traces only surfaces characterized by positive or neutral draft angles such that invasive mold portions may be withdrawn through the ports thereby permitting the pressure measurement pod to be molded in a single shot molding process.

A pressure sensor is included that is adapted to measure the pressure in the pressure sensor cavity. Also, a system is disclosed for measuring changes in the volume in a toilet bowl. The system includes a pressure sensor mounting fixture, having a chamber with an outlet. The chamber is in fluid communication with the contents of the bowl through the outlet. The pressure sensor mounting fixture also has a pressure sensor cavity above the chamber having an inlet in fluid communication with the chamber such that an air bubble is maintained in the pressure sensor cavity. A pressure sensor is included that is adapted to measure the pressure in the pressure sensor cavity.
