SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR IMAGING AND ABLATING A SAMPLE
Disclosed herein are systems for imaging and ablating a sample. An imaging/ablating device includes an optical assembly, a sample stage, and a receiver. The optical assembly enables ablation of a region of interest within the sample. The laser light propagated from the optical assembly during ablation propagates substantially in the same direction as the direction of travel of the ablation plume toward the receiver. A laser focus detection unit including at least one reference laser and photodetector generates at least one real-time detection signal indicative of one or more characteristics of the sample during ablation and/or of a distance from the objective to the sample stage or a surface of the sample. A controller coupled with the laser focus detection unit dynamically controls in real-time one or more parameters of the ablation laser and/or a position of the objective and/or a position of the receiver relative to the sample to improve MS imaging quality.
System and method for automatic plant tissue sampling
An automatic plant tissue sampler and a method for operating the same are provided. The sampler can include a plant handler configured to transport a plurality of plants to an imager. The imager may be configured to image plants to identify a sampling location. The automatic plant tissue sampler also includes a sampler configured to remove a tissue sample from the sampling location of plants, and a collection vessel configured to receive the tissue samples. The automatic plant tissue sampler may transport a plurality of plants to an imager and images the plurality of plants to identify a sampling location. The automatic plant tissue sampler can remove a tissue sample from the sampling location of the plurality of plants and store the tissue samples in a collection vessel for testing.
PLASMA AND SAMPLING GEOMETRIES FOR IMAGING MASS CYTOMETRY
Described herein are systems and methods for imaging mass spectrometry, including imaging mass cytometry. Aspects of the subject application include apparatus and methods for imaging mass spectrometry (IMS) that improve speed of sample acquisition, signal sensitivity, and/or signal stability. Systems and methods described herein may minimize the transfer time and/or may minimize the spread of plumes of sample material ablated from a sample to be transferred to the components of the imaging mass spectrometer or mass cytometer that ionize and analyze the sample material.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR IMAGING AND ABLATING A SAMPLE
Disclosed herein are systems for imaging and ablating a sample. An imaging/ablating device (110) includes an optical assembly (112), a sample stage (114), and a receiver (116). The optical assembly (112) is disposed in an inverted position below the sample stage (114) and the receiver (116) is positioned above the sample stage (112). The optical assembly enables imaging of a sample disposed on the sample stage (114). The optical assembly (112) also enables ablation of a region of interest within the sample. The laser light propagated from the optical assembly during ablation propagates substantially in the same direction as the direction of travel of the ablation plume (20) toward the receiver (116).
Open port sampling interface
A system for sampling a sample material includes a probe which can have an outer probe housing with an open end. A liquid supply conduit within the housing has an outlet positioned to deliver liquid to the open end of the housing. The liquid supply conduit can be connectable to a liquid supply for delivering liquid at a first volumetric flow rate to the open end of the housing. A liquid exhaust conduit within the housing is provided for removing liquid from the open end of the housing. A liquid exhaust system can be provided for removing liquid from the liquid exhaust conduit at a second volumetric flow rate. A droplet dispenser can dispense drops of a sample or a sample-containing solvent into the open end of the housing. A sensor and a processor can be provided to monitor and maintain a liquid dome present at the open end.
Automated selection of microorganisms and identification using MALDI
A method and apparatus for locating and selecting a colony of microorganisms on a culture dish and identifying microorganisms in said selected colony using MALDI. The method comprises the automated steps of locating and selecting a colony of microorganisms on a culture dish; obtaining a sample of said selected colony of microorganisms; depositing at least some of said sample of said selected colony of microorganisms on a target plate; and transferring said target plate with said sample in an apparatus for performing MALDI for identification of said sample of said selected colony of microorganisms. A sample of a colony of microorganisms is automatically deposited on a depositing spot such that the sample covers at most approximately half of said one of the depositing spots of the target plate. A suspension of a sample of microorganisms is automatically prepared by automatically picking the sample with a picking tool and submerging the picking tool with said sample in a suspension, after which the picking tool is vibrated in vertical sense only to release the sample from the picking tool.
Analysis apparatus and analysis method
According to one embodiment, an analysis apparatus includes a stage on which to place a sample, a light source, a film thickness measurement unit, and a controller. The light source generates a laser beam to irradiate the sample with the laser beam to cause vaporization of the sample. The film thickness measurer measures a thickness of the sample at a first position where the laser beam irradiates the sample. The controller controls at least one irradiation condition of the laser beam based on the measured thickness of the sample.
Sampling Devices
A sampling device for obtaining a material sample from a surface is provided. The sampling device comprises a housing (4) defining a cavity (6) for forming an at least semi-enclosed space adjacent a surface; an extraction conduit in communication with the cavity for extracting a material sample from the surface; an input interface arranged to receive light from a first direction (A); and an optical subsystem. The optical subsystem is located at least partially within the housing and is arranged to direct light from the input interface to be output through the cavity in a second direction that is substantially perpendicular to the first direction (A), to ablate a material sample from the surface.
Environmental sampling chamber
An environmental sampling chamber for sampling the particulates and substances emitted from a test sample when the surface of the sample is ablated. The sampling chamber avoids the need for clean rooms and other expensive testing apparatus and can be used to test a variety of materials in accordance with standard measurement procedures. Use of the testing chamber and methods assists with safety and risk evaluation in applications such as painting and removal of coatings.
