Method to detect white blood cells and/or white blood cell subtypes from non-invasive capillary videos
In one aspect, a method to detect white blood cells and/or white blood cell subtypes from non-invasive capillary videos is featured. The method includes acquiring a first plurality of images of a region of interest including one or more capillaries of a predetermined area of a human subject from non-invasive capillary videos captured with an optical device, processing the first plurality of images to determine one or more optical absorption gaps located in said capillary, and annotating the first plurality of images with an indication of any optical absorption gap detected in the first plurality of images. The method also includes acquiring a second plurality of images of the same region of interest of the same capillary with an advanced optical device capable of resolving cellular structure of white blood cells and white blood cell subtypes and spatiotemporally annotating the second plurality of images with an indication of any white blood cell detected and/or a subtype of any white blood cell detected in the second plurality of images. The method also includes inputting the first plurality of images and annotated information from the first plurality of images and annotated information from the spatiotemporally annotated second plurality of images into a machine learning subsystem configured to determine a presence of white blood cells and/or the subtype of any white blood cells present in the one or more optical absorption gaps in the first plurality of images.

The disclosure further relates to a sample image capturing method and a computer-readable storage medium. The disclosure can use a characteristic of the appearance image to achieve accurate capturing of sample images.
DNA methylation biomarkers of post-partum depression risk
The present invention relates to the field of post-partum depression. More specifically, the present invention relates to the use of biomarkers to diagnose post-partum depression or predict a risk thereof. In a specific embodiment, a method for identifying a likelihood of PPD in a patient comprises the steps of (a) providing a sample from the patient; (b) measuring white blood cell type counts and DNA methylation levels of a panel of biomarkers in the sample collected from the patient, wherein the panel of biomarkers comprises HP1BP3 and TTC9B and the white blood cell type counts comprise monocytes and non-monocytes; and (c) identifying the patient as likely to develop PPD based on the relative DNA methylation levels at the biomarker loci relative to the ratio of monocytes:non-monocytes.
Sample Processing Improvements For Microscopy
Among other things, a first surface is configured to receive a sample and is to be used in a microscopy device. There is a second surface to be moved into a predefined position relative to the first surface to form a sample space that is between the first surface and the second surface and contains at least part of the sample. There is a mechanism configured to move the second surface from an initial position into the predefined position to form the sample space. When the sample is in place on the first surface, the motion of the second surface includes a trajectory that is not solely a linear motion of the second surface towards the first surface.
Methods and devices for high throughput purification
Described herein are devices and methods for high throughput purification of particles. In some cases, methods and devices described herein can be used to remove erythrocytes and purify leukocytes and raise the quality of umbilical cord blood and other transplant grafts, thereby significantly improving patient outcomes.
Apparatus and method for analyzing a bodily sample
Apparatus and methods are described for use with a digital camera that is configured to acquire images of a bodily sample. Two or more stains are configured to stain the bodily sample. A computer processor drives the digital camera to acquire, for each of a plurality of imaging fields of the bodily sample, two or more digital images, at least one of the images being acquired under brightfield lighting conditions, and at least one of the images being acquired under fluorescent lighting conditions. The computer processor performs image processing on the digital images, by extracting visual classification features from the digital images and analyzing the extracted visual classification features. The computer processor outputs a result of the image processing that includes an indication of one or more entities that are contained within the sample. Other applications are also described.
Flow cell for analyzing particles in a liquid to be examined
The invention relates to a device for examining particles in a liquid to be examined, comprising a flow passage through which the liquid to be examined is moved. The flow passage has at least one inlet through which at least one sheath fluid flows into the flow passage such that the at least one sheath fluid forms at least one sheath flow in the flow passage. The device further comprises a wave generating device for piezoacoustically generating sound waves which propagate through the flow passage transversely to the flow direction of the liquid to be examined and form wave nodes on a monitoring plane such that particles to be examined of the liquid to be examined are moved onto the monitoring plane and accumulate thereon on the basis of the pressure effect of the sound waves in the transverse direction.
