A method can be provided for analyzing a fluidic sample with dispersed particles. Using such exemplary method, it is possible to irradiate the sample with light, so that the photons of the light transfer momentum to the particles. It is also possible to measure at least one property of the particles that is altered by the momentum transfer. The light can be a propagating beam with an intensity distribution that has gradients pointing to more than one point within each plane normal to the direction of propagation, while varying steadily along the direction of propagation, and/or a 3D vortex trap beam that is configured to confine the particles in a three-dimensional volume by means of high-intensity gradients. An exemplary device can also be provided (e.g., for performing the method), comprising a chamber for holding a sample that is elongate along an axis and configured to pass a beam of light along the axis. The chamber can have a conical inner cross section that substantially expands in the direction of propagation of the beam.

The present invention relates to an apparatus for performing a nucleic acid amplification reaction and a fluorescence detection device for reaction analysis. The nucleic acid amplification apparatus of the present invention uses a plurality of blocks having different reaction temperatures by independent temperature control and the movement between the blocks is performed along sliding recesses formed in the blocks, enabling to greatly shorten the total amplification time (TAT). In the fluorescence detection device of the present invention, the positions of the light source and the photodetector are very unique for the reaction vessel in which an excitation light is provided and an emission light is generated.

DETECTION METHOD AND DETECTION DEVICE

A detection method uses a reaction vessel including a container including a housing part having a first opening opened at an upper portion and a second opening opened at a side portion, and a side wall member fixed to the container so that a capturing region on a metal film is exposed in the second opening. First, a liquid containing a specimen is provided to the housing part. Next, the liquid in the housing part is stirred to capture, into the capturing region, a substance to be detected in the liquid. Next, the metal film is irradiated with light so that surface plasmon resonance occurs in the metal film, and light emitted from the reaction vessel and having a light amount changing depending on the amount of the substance to be detected captured in the capturing region is detected. In the step of providing the liquid to the housing part, an amount of liquid in which the liquid is not in contact with the capturing region when the liquid in the housing part is left still, and the liquid is in contact with the capturing region when the liquid in the housing part is stirred is provided to the housing part.

The reagent storage portion comprises at least one reagent containing cavity, and the reagent containing cavity is sealed by a sealing element; and the push rod is connected to the sealing element, and the push rod is used for cooperation with an external device to separate the sealing element from the reagent storage portion. In reaction, the biological sample reaction vessel cooperates with a test cassette. By inserting the biological sample reaction vessel into the external device, the reagent in the reagent storage portion can be released rapidly.

MEASUREMENT OF LIQUID PARAMETERS USING A MICROFLUIDIC DEVICE

A microfluidic apparatus has a microchannel that includes at least one vertically oriented segment with a top section having a relatively wide opening and a bottom section having a relatively narrow opening. The top section is larger in volume relative to the bottom sections, and the middle sections taper down in at least one dimension from the top section to the bottom section. One or tens or hundreds of vertically-oriented segments may be provided, and they are fluidly coupled to each other. Each segment acts as a pressure-volume-temperature (PVT) cell, and the microchannel apparatus may be used to determine a parameter of a fluid containing hydrocarbons such as the dew point of the fluid or the liquid drop-out as a function of pressure.
