The present specification provides a detector for an X-ray imaging system. The detector includes at least one high resolution layer having high resolution wavelength-shifting optical fibers, each fiber occupying a distinct region of the detector, at least one low resolution layer with low resolution regions, and a single segmented multi-channel photo-multiplier tube for coupling signals obtained from the high resolution fibers and the low resolution regions.
Methods and systems for generating three-dimensional images that enable improved visualization and interaction with objects in the three-dimensional images
In some embodiments, the present specification describes methods for displaying a three-dimensional image of an isolated threat object or region of interest with a single touch or click and providing spatial and contextual information relative to the object, while also executing a view dependent virtual cut-away or rendering occluding portions of the reconstructed image data as transparent. In some embodiments, the method includes allowing operators to associate audio comments with a scan image of an object. In some embodiments, the method also includes highlighting a plurality of voxels, which are indicative of at least one potential threat item, in a mask having a plurality of variable color intensities, where the intensities may be varied based on the potential threat items.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR REAL-TIME CONFIGURABLE BACKSCATTER SCANNERS
Described herein are systems and methods for backscatter imaging. A backscatter imaging system configurable in real-time for imaging an object is provided. The backscatter imaging system includes a source array including a plurality of discrete sources, and a collimator array including a plurality of collimators corresponding to the plurality of discrete sources. The source array is configured to selectively activate the plurality of discrete sources at a frequency that is determined based at least in part on a speed of the object relative to the backscatter imaging system.
CORRECTION OF IMAGES AND DEPTH INFORMATION FOR DETECTION WITH MATRIX
In some examples, there is described a method for processing inspection data associated with cargo irradiated by a plurality of successive pulses of X-rays. The method may involve obtaining the inspection data, the inspection data being generated as a result of scanning the cargo using a matrix including a plurality of at least two rows of detectors, and a source of the plurality of successive pulses. In some examples radiation corresponding to the plurality of successive pulses irradiating the cargo is arranged in a first order on the plurality of rows of detectors of the matrix and one or more successive reconstruction zones for the inspection data and corresponding to different orders are determined. Intermediate images of the cargo and an average image are generated. On the generated average image, pixels may be selected and neighbourhoods of the pixels having fewer artefacts may be extracted.
Sample inspection system
A sample inspection system and a corresponding method for inspecting a sample is provided. The sample inspection system includes a beam former, a beam modulator an energy resolving detector and a collimator. The beam former is adapted to receive an electromagnetic radiation from an electromagnetic source to generate a primary beam of electromagnetic radiation. The beam modulator is provided at a distance from the beam former to define a sample chamber. The collimator is provided between the beam modulator and the energy resolving detector. The collimator has a plurality of channels adapted to receive diffracted or scattered radiation. Upon incidence of the primary beam onto the beam modulator, the beam modulator provides a reference beam of diffracted or scattered radiation. The energy resolving detector is arranged to detect the reference beam.
Handheld Backscatter Scanning Systems With Different Detector Panel Configurations
CALIBRATION METHOD AND DEVICE THEREFOR
A method of determining at least one x-ray scanning system geometric property includes the steps of positioning a calibration device inside a scanning chamber of the scanning device, the chamber being intersected by at least one fan beam of x-rays during a scanning operation, measuring a distance between the calibration device and at least one inner wall of the chamber, scanning the calibration device to produce an image of the calibration device, identifying pixels representing the a geometric feature of the calibration device in the image, determining a position and orientation of the pixels representing the geometric feature in the image and, determining a scanning system property based on the position and orientation of the pixels representing the geometric feature in the image. The position and orientation of the feature in the scanning chamber and the x-ray scanning system property may be determined simultaneously.
Stationary X-Ray source
Embodiments provide a stationary X-ray source for a multisource X-ray imaging system for tomographic imaging. The stationary X-ray source includes an array of thermionic cathodes and, in most embodiments a rotating anode. The anode rotates about a rotation axis, however the anode is stationary in the horizontal or vertical dimensions (e.g. about axes perpendicular to the rotation axis). The elimination of mechanical motion improves the image quality by elimination of mechanical vibration and source motion; simplifies system design that reduces system size and cost; increases angular coverage with no increase in scan time; and results in short scan times to, in medical some medical imaging applications, reduce patient-motion-induced blurring.
BELOW-GROUND COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY CARGO INSPECTION SYSTEM AND METHOD
Described herein are a computed tomography scanning system for inspecting an object and methods incorporating the same. The system includes an imaging assembly including a frame positioned within an underground chamber below a ground surface, a platform coupled to and translatable with respect to the frame, and a stage coupled to and rotatable with respect to the platform. The platform is translatable to raise the object above the ground surface and lower the object below the ground surface when the object is on the stage. The imaging assembly also includes an X-ray source fixed with respect to the frame and configured to emit radiation that is attenuated by the object as the platform translates and the stage rotates, and an X-ray detector fixed with respect to the frame, the X-ray detector configured to detect the radiation transmitted through the object and generate a signal representative of the transmitted radiation.
