TRIAGING METHOD USING CELL FREE NUCLEOSOME LEVELS
The invention relates to using cell free nucleosome levels to identify patients at risk of developing a NETosis associated adverse reaction to the infection. The methods are used to monitor the progress of a disease and assigning a risk of an adverse outcome in a patient suffering from an infection.
SIZE-BASED DETECTION AND QUANTIFICATION OF FUNCTIONAL BIO-NANOPARTICLES
Sized-based detection techniques for detection of bio-nanoparticles are described. Detection nanoparticles and methods of forming the detection nanoparticles that can be utilized in the techniques are described. Detection nanoparticles can include modified bacteriophage that express a linking agent for a specific binding agent. Detection nanoparticles can bind a functional bio-nanoparticle with high specificity through specific binding of one or more entities unique to the functional bio-nanoparticle of interest. A detection nanoparticle can target an entity of a bio-nanoparticle that is relevant to its function, and as such, the methods can provide improvements in detection of complete and functional bio-nanoparticles. Size-based detection regimes can include particle displacement measurement techniques based upon Brownian motion.
RECOMBINANT ANTIBODY AND USES THEREOF
Disclosed herein is a recombinant antibody exhibiting binding affinity and/or neutralizing activity to porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV). According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, the PEDV is genotype 1 (G1) or genotype 2b (G2b) PEDV. Also disclosed herein are methods of diagnosing and treating PEDV infection by use of the present recombinant antibody.
TREATMENT FOR DISEASES CAUSED BY RNA VIRUSES
Up-regulation of caspase has been found in COVID-19 patients, and also occurs in patients suffering from diabetes, hypertension, metabolic syndrome, and other conditions. Such up-regulation can be responsible for poor clinical outcomes in patients having such diseases or disorders, as such up-regulation leads to a process called pyroptosis: death and malfunction of immune system cells, particularly of certain types of lymphocytes. An inhibitor of caspase such as a caspase 1 inhibitor, or “pan-caspase” inhibitor (i.e., an inhibitor of multiple caspase types including caspase-1), can be used to treat COVID-19 patients or individuals at risk of infection, by limiting the malfunction of the immune system. A caspase-1 or pan-caspase inhibitor is advantageously administered before or very early in the course of infection by a positive-sense, single-stranded RNA virus such as SARS-CoV, MERS-CoV, or SARS-Cov-2.
KIT FOR DETECTING VIRUS
The present invention relates to a kit for detecting a virus, a composition for detecting a virus and a method for detecting a virus. According to the present invention, viruses may be detected with high efficiency at low cost within a short period of time.
Antiviral composition for SARS-CoV-2 containing cannabinoids as active ingredient
The present invention relates to an antiviral composition and a screening method thereof for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) that occurred in Wuhan, China in 2019. An extract from leaves or unfertilized female flowers of Cannabis sativa L. or its fraction, and the cannabinoids (CBDs) molecules isolated from it have high binding strength and stability to SARS-CoV-2 MP.sup.pro, thereby inhibiting its action as the main protease, to provide a useful lead molecule that can be used alone or in combination with other drugs to treat SARS-CoV-2.
SARS-COV-2 INFECTION RISK ASSESSMENT METHOD
Increased levels of soluble urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR), particularly a plasma level of over 4.75 ng/ml or 6 ng/nl, have been found to be a predictor of whether a subject with COVID-19 symptoms and/or SARS-CoV-2 infection will require oxygen supplementation.
USE OF VITAMIN K IN PREVENTING OR COUNTERACTING COVID-19 DISEASE AND DIAGNOSTIC TEST TO ESTIMATE THE RISK OF DEVELOPING SEVERE DISEASE OR MORTALITY BY COVID-19
A composition is provided comprising a therapeutically active amount of vitamin K for administering to a subject as prophylactic for preventing or reducing the risk of developing severe disease or mortality by COVID-19 or a similar infectious disease, or as therapeutic for preventing said disease becoming more severe or reducing the severity of said disease. Also provided is a diagnostic test to estimate the risk of developing severe disease or mortality by COVID-19 or a similar infectious disease in a subject involving assessing vitamin K status in blood, serum or plasma of said subject.
METHOD OF DIAGNOSIS OF INFECTION BY THE SARS-COV-2 VIRUS
The invention relates to a new non-invasive test making it possible to detect infection by the SARS-CoV-2 virus in a patient, using values of Apolipoprotein A1 alone or in combination with other markers.
VIRAL CONDENSATES AND METHODS OF USE THEREOF
Provided herein are methods of screening for agents that can partition in viral condensates and therefore may be effective anti-viral agents. Also disclosed are methods of optimizing the activity and reducing the side effects of known or suspected anti-viral agents by screening the portioning of modified known or suspected anti-viral agents in viral condensates and other condensates occurring in cells (e.g., transcriptional condensates).
