The method may comprise: receiving an output of a sensor to monitor said environment; commencing a time window after the sensor detects activity in the environment; upon expiry of the time window, activating an active reflected wave detector to measure wave reflections from the environment, the detector consuming more power in an activated state than the sensor in an activated state; and determining a status of the environment and/or of a person therein based on an output of the active detector indicative of one or more of the measured reflections. The method comprises delaying expiry of the time window in response to the sensor detecting activity in the environment during the time window.

OBJECT RECOGNITION DEVICE AND OBJECT RECOGNITION METHOD

Provided is an object recognition device including a prediction processing unit, a temporary setting unit, and a association processing unit. The prediction processing unit predicts, as a prediction position on an object model obtained by modeling a tracking target, a position of a movement destination of the tracking target based on a trajectory formed by movement of at least one object of a plurality of objects as the tracking target. The temporary setting unit sets, based on specifications of a sensor that has detected the tracking target, a position of at least one candidate point on the object model. The association processing unit sets, based on the position of the candidate point and the prediction position, a reference position on the object model. The association processing unit determines whether the position of the detection point and the prediction position associate with each other based on a positional relationship between a association range which is set so that the association range has a reference position on the object model as a reference and a detection point at a time when the sensor has detected the at least one object of the plurality of objects.

A trailer-detection system includes a radar-sensor and a controller. The radar-sensor is used to determine a range, an azimuth-angle, and an elevation-angle of a radar-signal reflected by a trailer towed by a host-vehicle. The controller is in communication with the radar-sensor. The controller is configured to determine a size of the trailer towed by the host-vehicle based on the range, the azimuth-angle, and the elevation-angle of the radar-signal.

Radar apparatus

A radar apparatus is mountable to a vehicle. The radar apparatus includes an observing unit, an estimating unit, a predicting unit, a matching processing unit, and a determining unit. The estimating unit calculates, regarding an initial detection target object, a plurality of velocity estimation values in which folding is presumed, using a velocity observation value calculated by the observing unit. The predicting unit calculates a prediction value from each of the plurality of velocity estimation values. The matching processing unit performs association of the velocity prediction value and the velocity observation value.

SENSOR AND ESTIMATING METHOD

A sensor includes a transmit antenna, a receive antenna, circuitry, and a memory. The transmit antenna includes N transmit antenna elements each transmitting a transmit signal. The receive antenna includes M receive antenna elements each receiving N receive signals including reflection signals reflected by an organism. The circuitry extracts a second matrix corresponding to a predetermined frequency range from an N×M first matrix representing propagation characteristics between each transmit antenna element and each receive antenna element calculated from the receive signals. The circuitry estimates the position of the organism by using the second matrix, and calculates a radar cross-section value with respect to the organism, based on the estimated position and the positions of the transmit antenna and the receive antenna. The circuitry then estimates the posture of the organism by using the calculated radar cross-section value and information indicating associations between radar cross-section values and postures of the organism.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR NOISE COMPENSATION OF RADAR SIGNALS

A monitoring system for an aircraft can include an image sensor and a radar sensor. The system can provide noise compensation to a radar sample corresponding to a return radar signal received by the radar sensor based on information detected by the image sensor. The system can identify one or more object types in the image captured by the image sensor and then translate the identified object types to corresponding positions on a map. The system can correlate the radar sample to a position on the map and any object type located at that position can be identified. The system can then select a noise pattern that corresponds to the identified object type from the map and use the selected noise pattern to compensate the radar sample.
