METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DETECTING PHYSICAL PERFORMANCE
20170350977 · 2017-12-07 · ·

A device for sensing a passing athlete. The device has one or more signal sources for irradiating distinct segments of space about the device. One or more sensors are associated with the segments of space, and are arranged to sense a signal reflected off an athlete. The sensor(s) output a sensor signal indicating whether an athlete is present in each segment based on whether a reflected signal is detected from that segment. The segments are angularly positioned about the device so that the sensor(s) signals may be assessed to determine angular progression of the athlete relative to the device.

System, device and method for mobile device environment sensing and user feedback

The present disclosure describes a system, device, and method for assisting a user to avoid contacting surfaces with their mobile device. An environment is sensed with one or more electronic sensors. The sensor readings are analyzed. Information is then provided to a user based on the analyzed sensor readings. The sensors may be configured so their sensor cones cross at a midpoint. Readings from the sensor(s) may be grouped according detection zone(s) corresponding to one or more areas about a mobile device. A computing module may control a feedback module according to detection zone readings. The feedback module may comprise an indicator for each detection zone. The indicator may be a vibration motor. The indicator may be a light. The computing module may set the colour of a light and/or control the vibrations based on the proximity of surfaces detected within the corresponding detection zone.

Apparatus and associated methods relate to an array of individually readable distance sensors disposed along a first axis on a platform and configurable to detect penetration of a first plane containing the first axis, and an array of individually controllable light emitting indicators disposed on the platform along at least a second axis and configurable to emit visual indicia to a user out of the first plane. The visual indicia may, for example, be associated with the detected penetration. A reconfigurable predetermined detection window may, for example, be generated by associating adjacent sensors detecting input during a teaching operation. The detection window may, for example, be further generated by determining at least one distance threshold profile as a function of input received from the adjacent sensors during the teaching operation. Various embodiments may advantageously enable efficient configuration of generic sensing and indication units.

Low resolution adaptive distance display

Guide systems for indicating a distance between a first object and a second object and a method for visually representing a distance between two objects as the distance reduces are provided. A sensor measures a distance between the first object and the second object. A processor receives a distance measurement from the sensor and determines whether the distance measured by the sensor is within one of a plurality of distance intervals. Upon determining that the distance is within one of the plurality of distance intervals, the processor displays a distance indicator on the display. The distance indicator is located on the display based on the distance according to a scale for the distance interval, where a display area on the display represents the distance interval. The scale for the distance intervals becomes finer as the distance between the first object and the second object decreases.

A system and method for detecting and avoiding a collision includes measuring speed of one or more vehicles and at least one parameter indicating road surface and condition, weather, and tire pressure. Rear image dimensions are proportional to the speed of the trailing vehicle and front image dimensions are proportional to the speed of the index vehicle. The timing of the projected images will allow for safe deceleration of trailing and of the index vehicles The images are projected either as flat images on the roadway or three-dimensional (holographic) images. The occurrence and severity of a collision is defined by the rate of change in dimensions of the projected images that exceeds a predetermined value corresponding to a deceleration or acceleration of more than 1.1 g. Collision data measured by vehicle or extra vehicular (such as GPS) sensors are instantly stored and transmitted to the police department and emergency medical services.
