ULTRASONIC BEAM FOCUS ADJUSTMENT FOR SINGLE-TRANSDUCER ULTRASONIC ASSEMBLY TOOLS
Methods, systems, devices, and products for ultrasonic borehole logging using an ultrasonic borehole imaging tool in a borehole intersecting the earth formation. Methods may include adjusting a focus for an ultrasonic beam generated from a single-transducer ultrasonic assembly of the ultrasonic imaging tool; using a receiver to generate measurement information responsive to an ultrasonic signal caused by the ultrasonic beam; and estimating a parameter of interest from the measurement information. Methods may include adjusting the focus in dependence upon environmental conditions, the environmental conditions comprising at least one of: i) standoff between the ultrasonic imaging tool and a wall of the borehole; and ii) borehole annulus conditions. Methods may include adjusting the focus in substantially real-time. The ultrasonic beam may be focused with a focal zone at the borehole wall configured to produce a beam spot size of a selected diameter.

Instrumented bridge plugs for downhole measurements
A system includes a first instrumented bridge plug positionable in a downhole wellbore environment. The first instrumented bridge plug includes an acoustic source for transmitting an acoustic signal. The system also includes a second instrumented bridge plug positionable in the downhole wellbore environment. The second instrumented bridge plug includes an acoustic sensor for receiving a reflected acoustic signal originating from the acoustic signal. The reflected acoustic signal being usable to interpret wellbore formation characteristics of the downhole wellbore environment.
BEAMFORM PROCESSING FOR SONIC IMAGING USING MONOPOLE AND DIPOLE SOURCES
Embodiments provide for a method that utilizes the azimuthally spaced receivers of a sonic logging tool. Signals from monopole and dipole sources are reflected from the geologic interfaces and recorded by arrays of receivers of the same tool. For the incident P-waves from the monopole source, phase arrival times for the azimuthal receivers are compensated for stacking using properties of wave propagation in the borehole, and for the incident SH-waves from the dipole source, signs of waveforms for the receivers are changed for specified azimuths.
Guided mode beamforming for probing open-hole and cased-hole well environments
A method and downhole tool is provided that uses beamforming to localize acoustic energy at a desired zone-of-interest within a wellbore traversing a subterranean formation. The tool has an array of transmitter elements configured to emit guided mode acoustic signals at variable amplitude and variable time delay, which are individually controlled by an amplitude factor and time delay assigned to respective transmitter elements. A set of amplitude factors and time delays can be assigned to the transmitter elements of the transmitter array such that the transmitter elements produce a focused acoustic beam at the desired zone-of-interest by combination of guided mode acoustic signals transmitted by the transmitter elements.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CREATING PRESSURE WAVES IN A WELL
A technique facilitates controlled creation of pressure waves in a downhole environment. The technique enables creation of, for example, dynamic underbalance (DUB) pressure waves or dynamic overbalance (DOB) pressure waves which can be used to perform desired activities downhole. According to an embodiment, a pump is coupled with a pressure chamber and conveyed downhole into a borehole to a desired location. The pump may be operated downhole to change a pressure level in the pressure chamber until a sufficient pressure differential exists between an interior and an exterior of the pressure chamber. A release mechanism in communication with the pressure chamber is then rapidly opened to establish the desired pressure wave as the differing pressures equalize.
