A disclosed borehole curvature logging system includes: a drill string having a bottomhole assembly (BHA) with sensors providing actual deformation and bending moment measurements as a function of BHA position at spaced-apart intervals on the BHA; a processing system that retrieves said actual measurements and responsively generates a log of borehole curvature; and a user interface that displays the borehole curvature log. The processing system implements a method that generates the log by: providing an estimated borehole trajectory; deriving predicted deformation and bending moment measurements based on the estimated borehole trajectory; determining an error between the predicted measurements and the actual measurements; updating the estimated borehole trajectory to reduce the error; repeating said deriving, determining, and updating to refine the estimated borehole trajectory; and converting the estimated borehole trajectory into a borehole curvature log.

PROCESSING OF DIRECTIONAL SURVEY DATA RECORDED DURING ROTATIONAL DRILLING

Method for obtaining a directional survey in a rotating downhole component include acquiring and generating, while rotating, sets of raw data having 3-axis magnetic field data and 3-axis gravity field data. A set of rotationally-invariant data is obtained for each of the sets of raw data to generate a first number of sets of rotationally-invariant data. An earth property value is calculated from each of the sets. An accuracy indicator is estimated for each of the sets using a respective earth property value, an earth property reference value, and an error model, to generate a plurality of accuracy indicators. A set of mean values is determined using the plurality of sets of rotationally-invariant data using a second number of sets of rotationally-invariant data of the plurality of sets of rotationally-invariant data. The directional survey is estimated and used to control the downhole component.

UTILIZING RESISTIVITY DATA FOR MULTIPLE VIEW PERSPECTIVES FOR GEO-STEERING

The disclosure presents processes that utilize collected resistivity data, for example, from an ultra-deep resistivity tool located downhole a borehole. In some aspects, each slice of resistivity data can generate multiple distribution curves that can be overlaid offset resistivity logs. In some aspects, an analysis can be performed to identify trends in the distribution curves that can be used to identify approximate locations of subterranean formation surfaces, shoulder beds, obstacles, proximate boreholes, and other borehole and geological characteristics. As the number of distribution curves generated increase, the confidence in the analysis also increases. In some aspects, the number of distribution curves can be twenty, one hundred, one hundred and one, or other counts of distribution curves. In some aspects, the resistivity data can be used to generate two or more synchronized view perspectives of a specific location along the borehole, where each view perspective uses the same focus area.

Logging tool ferrites and methods of manufacture

A method of fabricating a ferrite for use in a resistivity logging tool includes providing an uncured ferrite material, and pressing the uncured ferrite material into a channel to form the ferrite. The channel is defined on a surface of a bobbin associated with the resistivity logging tool, and the channel can be arcuate and extend at an angle offset from a central axis of the bobbin. The uncured ferrite material is then cured in place within the channels on the bobbin.
