20230050084 · 2023-02-16 ·

Generally, disclosed herein are various embodiments of bonding agents for use in adhering optical fibers to ferrules within optical connectors, and the methods for use thereof. The various embodiments of bonding agents described herein may provide desirable properties, such as, but not limited to, high adhesion strength and/or improved performance following environmental aging. Various embodiments of the bonding agents disclosed herein may also have other desirable properties for the process of securing an optical fiber within a ferrule, such as, but not limited to, shortened process cycle time. Embodiments herein address these needs by monitoring the change in refractive index of a photocurable bonding agent at the interface between the photocurable bonding agent and a substrate or optical fiber, which is referred to as “back reflectance.” In particular, the methods described herein utilize back reflectance techniques to cure the photocurable material or bonding agent.

Sealed enclosure with output ports

Certain types of aggregation enclosures include cable input ports and downwardly angled cable output ports. A cover is pivotally coupled to the body so that the cover moves between an open position and a closed position. A modular component panel may be disposed within the enclosure. The component panel includes one or more distribution components (e.g., fiber distribution components or power distribution components) configured to connect at least a portion of an incoming cable to at least a portion of an outgoing cable.

Cable Connector

An optical connector assembly includes a spring, a ferrule, a first housing, and a second housing connected to the first housing. The ferrule includes a ferrule body and a lens. The ferrule body defines a fiber receiver configured to receive optical fibers of an optical cable and a first spring receiver configured to receive the spring. The lens is arranged to optically communicate light propagated by the received optical fibers for free-space optical communication. The first housing defines a first opening configured to slidably receive and guide the ferrule for movement along a first longitudinal axis. The second housing defines a second opening configured to receive the optical cable therethrough along a second longitudinal axis, and a second spring receiver configured to receive the spring. The spring biases movement of the ferrule in the first housing away from the second housing.

Optical fiber array and optical fiber connection structure

An optical fiber array includes a plurality of single-core fibers each having a core and a cladding and each having, in a distal end surface thereof, a beam expanding portion capable of expanding a mode field diameter (MFD) of light propagating in the core, and a ferrule having an optical fiber holding hole into which the plurality of single-core fibers are inserted, and an end surface in which the optical fiber holding hole opens. A cladding diameter of each of single-core fiber in the beam expanding portion decreases toward the distal end surface. The optical fiber holding hole has a tapered portion whose inner diameter decreases toward the end surface and against which the distal end surfaces abut.

FIBER OPTIC PROCESSING SYSTEMS AND METHODS

Processing operations allow optical fibers to be efficiently installed in ferrules. An optical fiber holding device includes a clip having a length that extends between a first end and a second end. The clip includes a base and a cover that each extend between the first end and second ends. The clip includes a fiber passage that located between the cover and the base that extends between the first and second ends. The clip defines a ferrule boot receptacle at the first end.

METHODS AND DEVICES FOR ASSEMBLING FIBER OPTIC CONNECTORS

Methods and devices for assembling a fiber optic connector are provided. A device supports at least one fiber optic connector. The connector has an optical fiber inserted through the ferrule so that an exposed portion is disposed outside of the ferrule. Residual epoxy on the exposed portion is cured prior to physically manipulating the optical fiber within the ferrule. The device includes at least one heating chamber and a heat shield for curing of the residual epoxy.

MALE PLUG OPTICAL CONNECTORS CONFIGURED FOR MATING WITH DISSIMILAR CONNECTOR

Male plug fiber optic connectors having configured for mating with a dissimilar connector are disclosed along with cable assemblies using the same. The fiber optic connector comprises a ferrule, a connector housing, and a nose-piece having a pocket disposed at a front portion. The pocket of the nose-piece is configured for allowing optical mating with a dissimilar connector. In one embodiment, the pocket on the nosepiece of the connector is disposed on a forward portion of the nosepiece. The fiber optic connectors disclosed advantageously allow for optical mating with dissimilar optical connectors with a quick and easy assembly for rugged applications or other optical communication networks.

Ferrule-less fiber optic connector with re-coat layer to protect buckling portion of optical fiber

The present disclosure relates to using a coating to protect a portion of an optical fiber that is intended to buckle within a fiber optic connector. The fiber optic connector can include a bare fiber optical connector.

Ferrules including keying features and fiber optic junctions including the same

Fiber optic connectors and junctions between fiber optic connectors include ferrules terminating a plurality of optical fibers, the ferrules having a ferrule keying portion that rotationally aligns and constrains the ferrules with a guide keying portion of an annular guide tube. The ferrules may further aligned and constrained and aligned in a lateral direction with a ferrule sleeve in the junction of connectors. Each of the ferrule sleeve and the guide keying portion individually constrain movement of the ferrules in different dimensions, the guide keying portion rotationally aligning and constraining the ferrules, while allowing freedom of movement in a lateral direction, and the ferrule sleeve aligning and constraining the ferrules in the lateral direction, while allowing rotational freedom of movement.
