TUNABLE POLARIZATION HOLOGRAPHIC LENSES
A device is provided. The device includes a first Pancharatnam-Berry phase (“PBP”) lens, and a second PBP lens stacked with the first PBP lens. Each of the first PBP lens and the second PBP lens includes a liquid crystal (“LC”) layer. Each side of the LC layer is provided with a continuous electrode and a plurality of patterned electrodes. The patterned electrodes in the first PBP lens are arranged non-parallel to the patterned electrodes in the second PBP lens.
A BEAM SHAPING DEVICE WITH IMPROVED PERFORMANCE
Liquid crystal (LC) beam control devices using a dispersion shaped (DS) half wave plate (HWP), with specific physical characteristics, allows the broadened beam to maintain significantly better the color cohesion. Beneficial aspects of using a HWP with an appropriate thickness and birefringence index which makes it inefficient in the blue wavelength spectrum, therefore reducing the blue photon depletion in the center of the broadened beam is described herein. Combinations of an homeotropic LC cell and DS HWP structures for reduced color separation, faster relaxation time and reduced ground state scattering is further described herein.
SYSTEM FOR AND METHOD OF PROJECTING AUGMENTATION IMAGERY IN A HEAD-MOUNTED DISPLAY
A system for and method of projecting augmentation imagery in a head-mounted display is disclosed. A system for projecting light onto an eye includes a display to project light, a beam combiner, first and second optical systems between the display and the beam combiner along respective first and second optical paths. The first and second optical paths differ. The system also includes a switchable reflector that, in a reflective state, reflects light incident upon the reflector, and, in a non-reflective state, transmits light incident upon the reflector. The reflector is between the display and the first and second optical systems along the first and second optical paths and directs light along the first path, in the reflective state, or along the second path, in the non-reflective state, to reflect light from the beam combiner to the eye from different directions when in the different states.
Flow cytometer with optical equalization
Aspects of the present disclosure include methods for producing an output laser beam having two or more angularly deflected laser beams (e.g., for irradiating a sample in a flow stream) with a predetermined intensity profile. Systems for practicing the subject methods having a laser, an acousto-optic device, a radiofrequency generator and a controller for adjusting the amplitude of the radiofrequency drive signals to produce an output laser beam of angularly deflected laser beams with a predetermined intensity profile are also described.
Transmission type adaptive optical system
A transmission type adaptive optical system that can be applied to a high power laser beam beyond a limit of deformable mirrors and corrects wavefront turbulence of a laser beam with adaptation to the wavefront turbulence is provided. By using a transmission type adaptive optical element of which a refractive index distribution changes based on temperature distribution thereof, a wavefront turbulence of a laser beam is corrected with adaptation to this wavefront turbulence. The wavefront turbulence is detected by a wavefront sensor and heating light in accordance with the detected wavefront turbulence is emitted to irradiate the transmission type adaptive optical element. The transmission type adaptive optical element transmits a laser beam as a target to correct a wavefront turbulence thereof and generates temperature distribution by the heating light and as a result generates the refractive index distribution.
ADAPTIVE POLARIZATION FILTER GRIDS
Apparatus are described herein related to augmenting human vision by means of adaptive polarization filter grids. A preferred embodiment is described as smart sunglasses, realized as see through head mountable device (HMD) configured to reduce glare originating from polarized light. Each eyeglass of the HMD is associated with a grid comprising a plurality of dynamically configurable polarization filters placed in the path of the light. A polarization analyzer module analyzes the polarization characteristics of a field of view and performs an optimization calculation. The polarization analyzer controls the said grid via a controller module in such a way that the filter state of each grid element can be addressed separately. The grid of polarization filters causes the polarization characteristics of the incident light to be adapted in such a way as to reduce glare and/or to provide a user of the said head mountable device with an enhanced visual perception of the field of view. The user of the described head mountable device has the option of selection between a plurality of polarization enhancement modes, such as horizontal or vertical polarization filtering only or a hybrid mode combining both horizontal and vertical polarization filtering on an individual basis for each grid element. Additionally smart window and smart mirror embodiments of the described adaptive polarization filter grids are introduced.
COMPLEX DIVERSITY FOR ACCURATE PHASE RETRIEVAL WITH SINGLE SHOT ACQUISITION
A new diversity concept is provided for achieving accurate phase retrieval with a singleshot acquisition. Multiple irradiance data are obtained by a diffractive grating or CGH designed to generate multiple diffraction orders with different diversity values. The effective filters associated with the individual diffraction orders from the diffractive grating or CGH are calculated. The effective filters are extracted by numerical propagation, and they preferably include both real and imaginary values, which signify both absorption and phase shift versus position in the filter plane. The reconstruction process utilizes accurate knowledge of the effective filters for each diffraction order for high quality reconstruction of the extrinsic phase.
DISPLAY PANEL AND DISPLAY DEVICE
A display panel and a display device. The display panel includes a first light adjusting module and a display module. The display module includes a pixel unit having a plurality of pixels, the pixels include a plurality of sub-pixels. The first light adjusting module includes a first light-adjusting electrode layer, a second light-adjusting electrode layer, a first filling layer and a second filling layer. The first filling layer is filled with a first filling material with a refractive index of ns, and the second filling layer is filled with filler groups each including at least one filler and corresponding to the pixels. The refractive index ne of the filler along the second direction is greater than the refractive index no along the third direction thereof, and ns≈no. The fillers in the same filler group switches between a first deflected state and a second deflected state.
Hybrid adaptive lenses for head-mounted displays
A hybrid lens includes a transmissive adaptive liquid lens and an optical element including liquid crystals. The adaptive liquid lens includes a layer of optical fluid on a substrate. A focal length of the adaptive liquid lens is adjustable. The optical element including liquid crystals is optically coupled with the adaptive liquid lens. The optical element including liquid crystals is configured to adjust a refractive index across the optical element including liquid crystals in conjunction with adjusting the focal length of the adaptive liquid lens so that the optical element reduces optical artifacts caused by the adaptive liquid lens.
