Phosphor wheel with inorganic binder

A light conversion device is disclosed. The light conversion device includes a substrate and a wavelength conversion element (111). The wavelength conversion element (111) includes an inorganic binder, such as sodium silicate. Also disclosed are phosphor wheels and light engines including such phosphor wheels. Further disclosed are high-power laser projection display systems comprising a laser having a power of from about 60 W and about 300 W and a light conversion device. The use of an inorganic binder permits high thermal stability at reasonable cost.

A wavelength conversion module including a substrate, a wavelength conversion layer and at least one wing is provided. The substrate has a wavelength conversion area, a non-wavelength conversion area and at least one through hole. The through hole penetrates through the substrate and is located in the non-wavelength conversion area. The wavelength conversion layer is disposed in the wavelength conversion area of the substrate. The wing is disposed in the non-wavelength conversion area of the substrate. When the substrate reaches a first temperature range, the wing closes the through hole. When the substrate reaches a second temperature range, at least one airflow channel is formed between the wing and the through hole. The wavelength conversion module of the invention and the projection device using the same effectively reduce a temperature of the wavelength conversion module, and thus have better reliability.

Examples are disclosed that relate to a compact optical systems comprising SLMs. One example provides a projection system comprising an illumination stage including a light emitting diode (LED) array. The LED array comprises a plurality of red LEDs, a plurality of green LEDs, and a plurality of blue LEDs. The illumination stage further comprises an illumination stage optical system configured to control an angular extent of light emitted by the LED array and homogenize the light emitted by the LED array. The projection system further comprises an image forming stage configured to form an image from light output by the illumination stage, the image forming stage comprising a spatial light modulator (SLM) configured to spatially modulate the light output by the illumination stage to form an image, and one or more projection optics configured to project the image formed by the spatial light modulator.

A system includes: a phosphor configured to receive first light having a first color, to produce second light having a second color responsive to the first light, and to transmit at least a first portion of the first light; a color wheel comprising a first colored segment configured to transmit light having a third color and a second colored segment configured to transmit light having a fourth color; a light tunnel optically coupled between the phosphor and the color wheel configured to transmit combined light including least a portion of the first light and the second light; wherein the first segment is configured to transmit the third color as first transmitted light and the second segment to transmit light of the fourth color as second transmitted light; and a spatial light modulator configured to modulate the first transmitted light and the second transmitted light.

A projection device, including an illumination light source, an electrochromic module, at least one light valve, and a projection lens, is provided. The illumination light source provides an illumination beam. The electrochromic module is disposed on a transmission path of the illumination beam. The electrochromic module includes at least one electrochromic element, and sequentially maintains or changes a wavelength of the illumination beam penetrating the at least one electrochromic element. The at least one light valve is disposed on the transmission path of the illumination beam transmitted by the electrochromic module to convert the illumination beam into an image beam. The projection lens is disposed on a transmission path of the image beam to project the image beam out of the projection device. The projection device and the use method thereof provided by the disclosure may change the color light output or the color space of a display image.
