IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

An image forming apparatus includes a drive device including a first drive transmission passage through which a driving force of a drive source is transmitted to a developer bearer via a first joint and a second drive transmission passage through which the driving force is transmitted to a rotary body via a second joint. The first drive transmission passage and the second drive transmission passage are defined such that one of a first drive transmission ratio to the first joint of the first drive transmission passage and a second drive transmission ratio to the second joint of the second drive transmission passage is an integral multiple of the other of the first drive transmission ratio from the drive source to the first joint of the first drive transmission passage and the second drive transmission ratio from the drive source to the second joint of the second drive transmission passage.

At least one partial measurement region is set in the longitudinal direction in a printable region of a photosensitive drum 3. After the photosensitive drum 3 has been charged to a constant potential with a charging roller 6, different potentials are set in the partial measurement region and a region excluding partial measurement region with a laser scanner 4, partial discharge information of the partial measurement region is detected by discharge information detection unit, and a bias voltage in image formation that is applied to the charging roller 6 is corrected on the basis of the value of the partial discharge information.

Image forming apparatus with pre-exposure member

In an image forming apparatus including a plurality of image forming stations, on the basis of a density of a toner image formed in an upstream image forming station, an operation of a pre-exposure device in a downstream image forming station is controlled.

DISCHARGING METHOD FOR LATENT IMAGE BEARER AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

A discharging method used in an image forming apparatus includes discharging, with an exposure device, an exposure range of the latent image bearer, and discharging, with a discharger, an area of the latent image bearer outside the exposure range and inside a developing range in a main scanning direction. The exposure range is inside the developing range in the main scanning direction. The discharging with the exposure device and the discharging with the discharger are performed when a rotation of the latent image bearer is stopped after a toner image is transferred from the latent image bearer.

Image forming apparatus and voltage applying method

According to one embodiment, a charger charges a surface of an image carrier by discharge in a wide-angle. A charging bias voltage application section applies a charging bias voltage to the charger. An exposing device forms an electrostatic latent image in a charged image carrier. A toner carrier causes toner to adhere to the electrostatic latent image formed in the image carrier. A developing bias voltage application section applies the developing bias voltage to the toner carrier. In addition, the developing bias voltage application section changes the charging bias voltage in one step and changes the developing bias voltage applied to the toner carrier in multiple steps.

Gap adjustment of non-contact charging roller

An image forming apparatus includes: an image carrier having a first rotation axle, a charging roller having a second rotation axle, a conductive member to contact a surface of the image carrier, a gap size acquisition device, and a gap adjustment device. The charging roller is disposed adjacent to the image carrier in a non-contact manner across a gap to charge the image carrier. The gap size acquisition device acquires a size of the gap. The gap adjustment device adjusts a distance between the first rotation axle and the second rotation axle based on information from the gap size acquisition device to maintain the size of the gap within a predetermined range.

An image forming apparatus includes: a photoconductor; an electric charging device charging the photoconductor; an exposure device exposing a portion of the photoconductor charged by the electric charging device to light based on image information, to form an electrostatic latent image; a first charge eliminating device emitting light to the photoconductor so as to eliminate an electric charge on a surface of the photoconductor; a second charge eliminating device emitting light to the photoconductor so as to eliminate an electric charge on a surface of the photoconductor, a wavelength of the light emitted by the first charge eliminating device being different from a wavelength of the light emitted by the second charge eliminating device; and a controller selectively operating the first and second charge eliminating devices depending on an image content of the electrostatic latent image in an image forming process.

ELECTROPHOTOGRAPHIC PHOTOCONDUCTOR, PROCESS CARTRIDGE, AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

An electrophotographic photoconductor includes: a conductive substrate; and a single-layer-type photoconductive layer that is provided on the conductive substrate and contains a binder resin, a charge generating material, a hole transporting material, and an electron transporting material, in which a volume resistivity of the photoconductive layer after wear is 5.0×10.sup.10 Ω.Math.cm or more and 2.0×10.sup.11 Ω.Math.cm or less when a ratio of a thickness of the photoconductive layer after wear to a thickness of the photoconductive layer before wear (the thickness of the photoconductive layer after wear/the thickness of the photoconductive layer before wear) is 0.8.

An image forming apparatus includes first and second image forming portions, a power source portion, and a controller. The power source portion is constituted so that when the power source portion applies a charging voltage to a first charging member of the first image forming portion, the charging voltage is also applied to a second charging member of the second image forming portion. The controller carries out control so that a timing of a start of discharge of the first photosensitive drum in the first image forming portion is made earlier than a timing of a start of image formation by the first image forming portion and so that a timing of a start of discharge of the second photosensitive drum in the second image forming portion is made earlier than a timing of a start of image formation by the second image forming portion.
