Photocuring printing system and method

A photocuring printing system. A developing drum is rotatable and is light-transmissive; the developing drum and a carrier are oppositely arranged and movable with respect to each other; the developing drum has a developing surface on which an electrostatic latent image is formed by the developing engine; a feeder and the developing surface are oppositely arranged; during a rotation of the developing drum, a photocurable material provided by the feeder is selectively attracted by the electrostatic latent image to form a material layer on the developing surface; the material layer is applied, by the developing drum, on a forming surface of the carrier or a cured model on the carrier; and a curing light beam emitted by a curing light source passes through a material-laying side of the developing drum to irradiate the material layer between the developing drum and the carrier to form a cured layer.

A pressure device applies pressure to a sheet medium on part of a surface of which an image bearer is formed. The pressure device includes: a driving unit that changes a distance between a first pressing unit and a second pressing unit; a control unit that controls the driving unit such that the distance between the first pressing unit and the second pressing unit becomes a set target value; and a target setting unit that sets the target value to a first distance that is larger than a thickness of the sheet medium when the sheet medium is not present between the first pressing unit and the second pressing unit, and sets the target value to a second distance for applying a target pressure to the sheet medium when the sheet medium and the image bearer are present between the first pressing unit and the second pressing unit.

When a nip/release mechanism moves a first roller and starts causing a foil film to be pressed against a confined surface region on a sheet, located apart from a leading edge of the sheet, a controller executes: a first process of causing a conveyor roller to start conveyance of the sheet, while the first roller is positioned in a separate position; a second process of causing the conveyor roller to stop conveyance of the sheet before a foil transfer area reaches a transfer position; a third process of causing the nip/release mechanism to start moving the first roller from the separate position to a nipping position while the conveyance of the sheet is stopped; and a fourth process of causing the conveyor roller to restart conveyance of the sheet before the first roller reaches the nipping position.

In a method of printing a 3D part in accordance with a selective deposition additive manufacturing process a first image portion of a flowable material is developed using a first electrophotographic engine. A second image portion of a resilient material is developed using a second electrophotographic engine. The first image portion is registered with respect to the second image portion to form a combined image layer comprising the first and second image portions on a transfer medium. The combined image layer is transfused from the transfer medium to a part build surface of a 3D part. The viscosity (Vr) of the resilient material is greater than or equal to three times the viscosity (Vf) of the flowable material, and/or the storage modulus (Er) of the resilient material is greater than or equal to three times the storage modulus (Ef) of the flowable material.
