The controller is configured to: in a case where images to be formed on both sides of each of an Nth (N is a positive integer) sheet, an (N+1)th sheet, and an (N+2)th sheet are all monochrome image or all color image, convey the (N+2)th sheet to the print engine and form an image before forming an image on both sides of the (N+1)th sheet; and in a case where the images to be formed on both sides of each of the Nth sheet, the (N+1)th sheet, and the (N+2)th sheet are a mixture of the monochrome image and the color image, convey the (N+2)th sheet to the print engine and form an image after forming an image on both sides of the (N+1)th sheet.

There is provided an image forming system including at least a first image forming apparatus that includes a first image forming unit and an obtaining unit configured to obtain operation-related information related to an operation of the first image forming unit. The image forming system further includes a carryover unit configured to carry over, to a second image forming apparatus, information related to an operation of a second image forming unit of the second image forming apparatus among the operation-related information obtained by the first image forming apparatus when the second image forming apparatus is newly used in the image forming system. The operation-related information includes operation history information of the first image forming unit.

There is provided an image forming system including at least a first image forming apparatus that includes a first image forming unit and an obtaining unit configured to obtain operation-related information related to an operation of the first image forming unit. The image forming system further includes a carryover unit configured to carry over, to a second image forming apparatus, information related to an operation of a second image forming unit of the second image forming apparatus among the operation-related information obtained by the first image forming apparatus when the second image forming apparatus is newly used in the image forming system. The operation-related information includes operation history information of the first image forming unit.

An image forming system of an aspect of the present invention includes: a first image forming portion; a second image forming portion connected in series to the first image forming portion; and an assignment determining portion that determines an assignment of image formation of print data to the first image forming portion and the second image forming portion in accordance with contents of the print data. The first image forming portion forms a first image on the continuous sheet on the basis of the assignment determined by the assignment determining portion, and the second image forming portion forms a second image on a region which is different from a region where the first image is formed on the continuous sheet and which overlaps a non-printable region that is a region where the first image forming portion cannot print, on the basis of the assignment determined by the assignment determining portion.

An image forming apparatus includes one or plural forming devices that form respective images on a recording medium that is being transported, a fixing device provided on a downstream side with respect to at least one of the forming devices in a direction of transport of the recording medium and that fixes the images formed on the recording medium, a delivering device that receives the recording medium transported in a first direction and discharges the recording medium in a second direction that is different from the first direction, and a supplying device that supplies the recording medium to any of the forming devices or to the delivering device. The forming devices, the fixing device, the delivering device, and the supplying device have respective housings and are each joinable to any of the other devices.

An image forming apparatus includes a first processor configured to control a transporter that transports a sheet and a first image forming section that forms an image on the sheet transported by the transporter, and a second processor configured to control a second image forming section that forms an image on the sheet transported by the transporter. The first processor and the second processor are contained in a single housing. When the first processor receives an image formation command from outside the housing and determines to perform an image forming process at the first image forming section, the first processor is configured to perform transport preparation for transporting the sheet at the transporter and receive, from the second processor, a completion notification corresponding to a preparation command, for performing image formation preparation in the second image forming section, transmitted to the second processor via an inside of the housing, and subsequently cause the transporter to transport the sheet and the first image forming section to form the image. If the first processor ascertains that an independent process involving not forming the image at the first image forming section but forming the image at the second image forming section is to be performed, the first processor is configured to perform the transport preparation before receiving the completion notification, and cause the transporter to transport the sheet after receiving the completion notification.
