An approach is provided for monitoring and reporting capacity of a toner cartridge in a printing device. The printing device determines estimated toner levels based on actual toner levels obtained from a toner sensor of the printing device. The estimated toner levels are determined based on a first actual toner level and a second actual toner level obtained from the toner senor and print usage between the two actual toner levels. The estimated toner levels are determined for levels below the second actual toner level and are mapped to synthetic toner levels. Visual indications of the synthetic toner levels are displayed on the printing device.

An image forming apparatus includes an enquirer that temporarily suspends production of a printed material, after at least one set of the printed materials has been produced, upon deciding that a print request has been sent from a predetermined remote location distant from an installation site of the image forming apparatus, and enquires whether the production of the printed material may be resumed, to a user through a network I/F, a response receiver that receives a response from the user, to the enquiry made by the enquirer, and a controller that resumes the production of the printed material, upon deciding that the response receiver has received a permission to resume the production of the printed material, from the user.

The image forming apparatus includes: an execution unit configured to execute repair processing in which, out of data and management information for managing the data included in the file, the management information is repaired; and an error detecting unit configured to detect an access error that has occurred as a result of the access unit accessing the file.
