A transfer device includes: a transfer drum that has a groove-like recess extending in an axial direction in an outer circumferential portion thereof, rotates about an axis thereof, and comes into contact with a medium being transported at a portion thereof on an upstream side of the recess in a rotation direction; a nip member, the nip member and the transfer drum forming therebetween a nip part where the medium is nipped; an application member that applies a voltage to the nip part where the medium is nipped, so that an image is transferred to the medium; and a contact mechanism that causes the nip member to come into contact only with a portion on the upstream side of the recess in the transfer drum in the rotation direction at a transfer-start time when the transfer of the image to the medium starts.

An image forming apparatus includes a feeder unit, a separating unit, a conveying unit disposed downstream of the separating unit in a sheet feeding direction, an image forming unit disposed downstream of the conveying unit in the sheet feeding direction, a drive unit, and a control unit. The feeder unit feeds a sheet. The separating unit separates sheets fed by the feeder unit one by one. The conveying unit conveys the sheet. The image forming unit forms, while the sheet is being conveyed, an image on the sheet. The drive unit drives the conveying unit. The control unit controls the drive unit. After the conveyed sheet reaches the image forming unit, the control unit reduces a conveyance speed of the sheet conveyed by the conveying unit.

An image forming apparatus includes an image bearing member, an image forming portion, an endless belt, a plurality of stretching rollers including an inner roller, an outer roller, a position changing mechanism capable of changing a position of the inner roller to a first position and a second position positioned downstream of the first position with respect to a rotational direction of the endless belt, a feeding member, a feeding member driving portion, and a controller. A feeding start timing of a recording material by the feeding member depends on the position of the inner roller during transfer of a toner image onto the recording material.

A paper guide member includes plural thread-shaped protrusions extending in a passing direction of paper to guide the paper after a toner image is transferred so that the paper passes with a distance secured from a static eliminator that eliminates static electricity in proximity to the paper in a width direction of the paper. The plural thread-shaped protrusions adjoin each other across a slit in the width direction of the paper. The plural thread-shaped protrusions include first thread-shaped protrusions each having a height at which the paper is supported and guided, and second thread-shaped protrusions each having a height smaller than the height of each of the first thread-shaped protrusions and present in regions on an outer side of both ends in the width direction of each passing region where paper having each width passes.

A controller controls the image forming unit to form a test image on one side of the sheet, controls the roller to convey the sheet on which the test image has been formed, obtains first read data relating to a read result of a first surface of the sheet on which the test image is formed, obtains second read data relating to a read result of a second surface from the first read data and the second read data, selects read data relating to a read result relating to the test image, and controls, based on the selected read data, a density of an output image to be formed by the image forming unit.

According to one embodiment, an image forming apparatus includes: a registration roller; a motor configured to drive the roller; and a controller configured to control the motor. The roller is disposed at a first position on a conveyance path of paper on which an image is to be formed, and sends out the paper toward a second position on the conveyance path. The second position is downstream from the first position on the conveyance path and is an image transfer position on the paper. The controller controls the motor by using both speed control and position control when the leading end of the paper is at a position from the first position to the second position, and controls the motor by using only the speed control when the leading end of the paper reaches the second position.

A sheet conveying device of the present disclosure includes: a conveying portion that conveys a sheet in a conveying direction directed toward an image transfer position; a detection portion that detects a conveyance deviation of the sheet conveyed; a sheet correction portion provided on a downstream side of the conveying portion in the conveying direction; and a speed control portion that controls a displacement speed of the sheet correction portion during a displacement process of the sheet correction portion from a sheet acceptance position to a correction completion position. The speed control portion causes the sheet correction portion to be displaced to a setting position set between the sheet acceptance position and the correction completion position at a predetermined first speed, and causes the sheet correction portion to be displaced from the setting position to the correction completion position at a second speed lower than the first speed.
