An electrophotographic photosensitive member includes a conductive substrate and a photosensitive layer. In general formula (1), R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 each represent, independently of one another, a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, a heterocyclic group, an alkoxy group, an aralkyl group, an allyl group, or an aryl group optionally substituted with at least 1 and no more than 5 substituents selected from the group consisting of a halogen atom, an alkyl group, and alkoxy group.

The present invention relates to an electrophotographic photoreceptor having a plurality of layers containing at least one outermost layer, wherein at least one of the outermost layer contains a polymer having a first structure where at least one carbonyl group is bonded to an aromatic group and a second structure represented by Formula (A). In Formula (A), at least two of R.sup.11 to R.sup.13 are groups represented by Formula (2), and in Formula (2), R.sup.21 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, and R.sup.22 and R.sup.23 each independently represent a hydrogen atom, a hydrocarbon group or an alkoxy group:

An electrophotographic photosensitive member includes a conductive substrate and a photosensitive layer. The photosensitive layer is a single layer. The photosensitive layer contains a charge generating material, a hole transport material, an electron transport material, and a binder resin. The hole transport material includes a compound represented by chemical formula (1-1) or (1-2). The photosensitive layer further contains an n-type pigment. A photosensitive layer included in an electrophotographic photosensitive member contains at least a charge generating material, a hole transport material, and a binder resin. The hole transport material includes a compound (1). The binder resin includes a polyarylate resin having at least one repeating unit (10) and at least one repeating unit (11). Alternatively, the binder resin includes a polycarbonate resin having a repeating unit (20) and a repeating unit (21). The general formulas (1), (10), (11), (20), and (21) are as follows ##STR00001##

Image forming apparatus
An image forming apparatus includes an image bearer; a charging member to charge the surface of the image bearer; an irradiating member to irradiate the surface of the image bearer to form an electrostatic latent image on the surface of the image bearer; an developing member to develop the electrostatic latent image with a toner to form a visible toner image on the surface of the image bearer; and a transferring member to transfer the toner image onto a transfer material. The image bearer includes a charge generation layer including an asymmetrical disazo pigment and a metal-free phthalocyanine pigment, and a charge transport layer. The irradiating member forms the electrostatic latent image at an irradiation energy greater than a half decay exposure of the image bearer and not greater than 2.5 times of the half decay exposure. The image bearer is not discharged every image forming process.
