Focus Adjustment Method For Holographic Imaging System

A focus adjustment method for acquiring an image of a surface of interest of a sample by a holographic imager includes the steps of: placing the sample including at least one reference object having a known shape and described by characterising parameters having at least position parameters acquiring an image and determining the position of the reference object with respect to the acquisition plane, by applying a light diffraction model involving the spatial parameters of the reference object estimated by approximating the appearance of the reference object in the holographic image acquired, and determining the position of the surface of interest with respect to the acquisition plane from a position of the reference object and focus adjustment of the image acquisition.

ILLUMINATION POWER CONTROL FOR A COMPUTER-GENERATED HOLOGRAM DISPLAY

A method for adjusting the apparent brightness of a computer-generated hologram display is disclosed. The method comprises: receiving source data representative of a scene to be displayed as a hologram; determining hologram data to display a computer-generated hologram representing the scene; determining a scene energy based on the source data, the scene energy being quantised using a scale which is non-linear and which has a closer spacing between values in a mid-section of the scale than between values towards a minimum and a maximum of the scale; associating the scene energy with the hologram data; controlling a holographic display according to the hologram data and simultaneously controlling an output power of an illumination source of the holographic display according to the scene energy. A holographic display apparatus implementing the method is also disclosed.

Holographic display and holographic image forming method

A holographic display and a method, performed by the holographic display, of forming a holographic image are disclosed. The holographic display includes an electrically addressable spatial light modulator (EASLM); a diffractive optical element (DOE) mask array arranged on the EASLM; and a controller configured to operate the holographic display to form a hologram image, wherein the controller is further configured to address the EASLM to backlight the DOE mask array required to form a set of hologram image voxels by turning on a corresponding EASLM pixel.

There is disclosed herein a liquid crystal on silicon spatial light modulator, “LCoS SLM”, device arranged for in-plane switching. The LCoS SLM device comprises: a silicon backplane (1501); a transparent substrate (1581); a liquid crystal layer (1571); an electrode structure (1505, 1507) and a reflective component (1561, 1551). The liquid crystal layer (1571) is interposed between the silicon backplane (1501) and the transparent substrate (1581). The electrode structure (1505, 1507) is formed on the silicon backplane (1501) for generating an electric field in the liquid crystal layer (1571). The electric field is substantially parallel to the silicon backplane (1501). The reflective component (1551, 1561) is opposing the transparent substrate (1581).

Methods, apparatus, devices, and systems for three-dimensional (3D) displaying objects are provided. In one aspect, a method includes obtaining data including respective primitive data for primitives corresponding to an object, determining an electromagnetic (EM) field contribution to each element of a display for each of the primitives by calculating an EM field propagation from the primitive to the element, generating a sum of the EM field contributions from the primitives for each of the elements, transmitting to each of the elements a respective control signal for modulating at least one property of the element based on the sum of the EM field contributions, and transmitting a timing control signal to an illuminator to activate the illuminator to illuminate light on the display, such that the light is caused by the modulated elements of the display to form a volumetric light field corresponding to the object.

The light source illuminates the spatial light modulator. The temporal light modulator modulates an output intensity of the light source over time to encode holographic data representing a hologram. The light sensor is associated with a spatial light modulator and receives light from the light source and generates a signal representative of the output intensity of the light source. The demodulator is connected to the light sensor to receive the signal. The demodulator decodes the signal to obtain the holographic data. The demodulator is connected to the spatial light modulator to set the pixels of the spatial light modulator in accordance with the holographic data to display the hologram ready for illumination by the light source to form a holographic reconstruction.
