Systems and methods are directed to automatically generating a three-dimensional (3D) holographic presentation from a two-dimensional (2D) slide presentation. A network system receives an indication to generate the 3D holographic presentation, which causes automatic generation of the 3D holographic presentation by the network system. In response to receiving the indication, the network system accesses the 2D slide presentation from a user device associated with a presenter and accesses, from a mapping database, a plurality of mappings that indicate how to convert elements of each slide of the 2D slide presentation into a 3D format. The network system then transforms elements of each slide from a 2D format into the 3D format based on the plurality of mappings. The 3D holographic presentation is generated from the transformed elements by blending the transformed elements with a background and/or real-world image data captured by an image capture device.

There is disclosed herein a waveguide comprising an optical slab and an optical wedge. The optical slab has a first refractive index, n.sub.1>1. The optical slab comprises: a pair of opposing surfaces and an input port. The pair of opposing surfaces are arranged in a parallel configuration. The input port is arranged to receive light into the optical slab at an angle such that the light is guided between the first and second opposing surfaces by a series of internal reflections. The optical wedge has a second refractive index, n.sub.2, wherein 1<n.sub.2<n.sub.1. The optical wedge comprises a pair of opposing surfaces arranged in a wedge configuration. A first surface of the optical wedge abuts the second surface of the optical slab to form an interface that allows partial transmission of light guided by the optical slab into the optical wedge at a plurality of points along the interface such that the light is divided a plurality of times. The angle of the wedge allows light received at the interface to escape through the second surface of the optical wedge such that the exit pupil of the waveguide is expanded by the plurality of divisions of the light.

Various embodiments set forth optical patterning systems. In some embodiments, an optical patterning system includes multiple liquid crystal (LC) layers and a substrate including circuitry that is connected to each of the LC layers. Each LC layer is independently addressable, via connections to the circuitry in the substrate, to modulate a different degree of freedom (DOF) of light, such as an amplitude, a phase, a distinct polarization component, or an amplitude or a phase of a polarization component of the light. In addition, each LC layer can be configured to operate in a non-resonant mode, in which light passes through the LC layer a single time, or in a resonant mode, in which light bounces back and forth between reflective layers multiple times to enhance the interaction with the LC layer.

HIGH LUMINANCE PROJECTION DISPLAYS AND ASSOCIATED METHODS

Projection displays include a highlight projector and a main projector. Highlights projected by the highlight projector boost luminance in highlight areas of a base image projected by the main projector. Various highlight projectors including steerable beams, holographic projectors and spatial light modulators are described.

A METHOD AND DISPLAY APPARATUS FOR REDUCING HOLOGRAPHIC SPECKLE

A method and display apparatus for reducing holographic speckle when displaying holographic images are described. A target image (10) is decomposed into input images (11). A first input image includes higher spatial frequency components of the target image and is imaged using a first display method (12) to generate a first holographic display image. The second input image includes lower spatial frequency components of the target image and is imaged using a second display method (12) to generate a second display image. The first and second display images are combined for display to a user. The second display method (12) is adapted to reduce holographic speckle or include no holographic speckle compared to the first holographic display method (12) thereby reducing holographic speckle in the combined display image (13).
