Methods for three-dimensional arrangement of anisotropic molecules, patterned anisotropic films, and optical elements therewith

The invention relates to a method of creation of three-dimensional alignment patterns that includes providing a layer of optically recordable and polarization sensitive material having a thickness that is greater than, or equal to, a predefined thickness, and concurrently illuminating the optically recordable medium with two coherent beam of same or different polarization with predetermined angle between the beams such that the said beams impinge from the same side or from the opposite sides upon the layer of the recordable material. The invention further relates to polarization volume holograms based on the said alignment patterns and polarization holographic element including a single layer or a stack of several layers of optically recordable materials containing single or multiple polarization volume holograms.

Spatial light modulator device for the modulation of a wave field with complex information

A three-dimensional light modulator, of which the pixels are combined to form modulation elements. Each modulation element can be coded with a preset discrete value such that three-dimensionally arranged object points can be holographically reconstructed. The light modulator is characterized in that assigned to the pixels of the modulator are beam splitters or beam combiners which, for each modulation element, combine the light wave parts modulated by the pixels by means of refraction or diffraction on the output side to form a common light beam which exits the modulation element in a set propagation direction.

To provide a display device capable of further improving reliability of the display device with respect to manufacturing variations, wavelength variations of light sources, and active variations (variations due to external factors). There is provided a display device including at least a light source, a first hologram, and a second hologram, in which the first hologram compensates for dispersion of light emitted from the light source and diffracts and emits the light, the second hologram diffracts the light diffracted with compensated dispersion, and emits the light in a direction of a pupil of a user, and the first hologram has an intensity distribution of different diffraction efficiency with respect to a wavelength of the light emitted from the light source depending on a position in a plane of the first hologram.
