The automation device also stores (202), in an application repository, automation device applications as separate computer program entities. The automation device may detect (203) a pre-determined act performed by a user, the predetermined act comprising the user selecting via a user interface an application-related parameter among the application-related parameters stored in the parameter storage. Based on the detecting (203), the automation device retrieves (204), from the application repository to an execution memory, the automation device application corresponding to the selected application-related parameter, wherein the retrieved automation device application is executable from the execution memory, in order to drive the automation device for an application-related purpose.

An information collecting device controls a plant based on process data acquired from controllers and field devices connected to the controllers. The information collecting device includes an arithmetic controller and an update controller. The arithmetic controller collects first information which is engineering information of the plant and second information which is device information from a controller, a field device or a combination of both selected from the controllers and the field devices. The update controller generates third information based on a definition in which the first information and the second information are set in advance, and updates the third information in a storage based on a preset update cycle.

An identification number setting system includes a first element component including a first storing section, coupled to a first branch communication line branching from a main line of a bus-type communication wire, and coupled to a power supply, a second element component including a second storing section, coupled to a second branch communication line branching from the main line, and coupled to the power supply to be capable of switching energization and disenergization, and a control device coupled to the main line and configured to communicate with the first element component and the second element component. The control device writes a first identification number in the first storing section in a first state and writes a second identification number different from the first identification number in the second storing section after the writing of the first identification number and in a second state.

An information collecting device controls a plant based on process data acquired from controllers and field devices connected to the controllers. The information collecting device includes an arithmetic controller and an update controller. The arithmetic controller collects first information which is engineering information of the plant and second information which is device information from a controller, a field device or a combination of both selected from the controllers and the field devices. The update controller generates third information based on a definition in which the first information and the second information are set in advance, and updates the third information in a storage based on a preset update cycle.

A method and network control system for an industrial processing facility (IPF) including, a plant-wide network coupling at least one controller platform. The controller platform comprising computing hardware and a memory and at least one application module (AM) contained in the memory. The AM comprising a control application, data, configuration and state information for the controller platform, wherein the at least one controller platform is coupled by an input/output network to I/O devices coupled to field devices that are coupled to processing equipment on a field level of an industrial processing facility (IPF). A storage appliance coupled to the plant-wide network is arranged to receive a copy of the AM contained in the controller platform to a backup application in the storage appliance. The backup application returning the AM back to the controller platform to recover and restore a failed controller platform to normal operation.
