TECHNIQUES FOR MANAGING TEMPORARILY RETIRED BLOCKS OF A MEMORY SYSTEM
20230045990 · 2023-02-16 ·

Methods, systems, and devices for techniques for managing temporarily retired blocks of a memory system are described. In some examples, aspects of a memory system or memory device may be configured to determine an error for a block of memory cells. For example, a controller may determine an existence of the error and may temporarily retire the block. A media management operation may be performed on the temporarily retired block and, depending on one or more characteristics of the error, the temporarily retired block may be enabled or retired.

METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR DATA SYNCHRONIZATION

A method for facilitating data synchronization across a plurality of platforms is provided. The method includes retrieving a change event, the change event corresponding to an event stream from a first platform; parsing the change event to identify a record and a data operation; examining a synchronization database to determine whether a corresponding record is persisted in a database of a second platform; inserting the record into the synchronization database when the corresponding record is not persisted in the platform, the inserted record including a change indicator; and updating, by using the synchronization database, the database of the second platform to include the record.

Efficient management of failed memory blocks in memory sub-systems

Disclosed is a system including a memory device having a plurality of physical memory segments and a processing device to perform operations that include, responsive to detecting a failure of a memory operation associated with a physical memory segment of the plurality of physical memory segments, quarantining the physical memory segment, responsive to quarantining the physical memory segment, performing one or more scanning operations on the physical memory segment, and determining, based on results of the one or more scanning operations, a viability status of the physical memory segment, wherein the viability status indicates an ability of the physical memory segment to store data.

Memory device with configurable performance and defectivity management

A memory device comprises a memory control unit including a processor configured to control operation of the memory array according to a first memory management protocol for memory access operations, the first memory management protocol including boundary conditions for multiple operating conditions comprising program/erase (P/E) cycles, error management operations, drive writes per day (DWPD), and power consumption; monitor operating conditions of the memory array for the P/E cycles, error management operations, DWPD, and power consumption; determine when a boundary condition for one of the multiple operating conditions is met; and in response to determining that a first boundary condition for a first monitored operating condition is met, change one or more operating conditions of the first memory management protocol to establish a second memory management protocol for the memory access operations, the second memory management protocol including a change boundary condition of a second monitored operating condition.

Maintenance command interfaces for a memory system

Methods, systems, and devices for maintenance command interfaces for a memory system are described. A host system and a memory system may be configured according to a shared protocol that supports enhanced management of maintenance operations between the host system and memory system, such as maintenance operations to resolve error conditions at a physical address of a memory system. In some examples, a memory system may initiate maintenance operations based on detections performed at the memory system, and the memory system may provide a maintenance indication for the host system. In some examples, a host system may initiate maintenance operations based on detections performed at the host system. In various examples, the described maintenance signaling may include capability signaling between the host system and memory system, status indications between the host system and memory system, and other maintenance management techniques.

Reporting control information errors

Methods, systems, and devices for reporting control information errors are described. A state of a memory array may be monitored during operation. After detecting an error (e.g., in received control information), the memory device may enter a first state (e.g., a locked state) and may indicate to a host device that an error was detected, the state of the memory array before the error was detected, and/or at least a portion of a control signal carrying the received control information. The host device may diagnose a cause of the error based on receiving the indication of the error and/or the copy of the control signal. After identifying and/or resolving the cause of the error, the host device may transmit one or more commands (e.g., unlocking the memory device and returning the memory array to the original state) based on receiving the original state from the memory device.

Memory error detection

Systems and methods are provided for detecting and correcting address errors in a memory system. In the memory system, a memory device generates an error-detection code based on an address transmitted via an address bus and transmits the error-detection code to a memory controller. The memory controller transmits an error indication to the memory device in response to the error-detection code. The error indication causes the memory device to remove the received address and prevent a memory operation.

Bit error rate based dynamic program step characteristic adjustment

A BER corresponding to a group of memory cells programmed via a programing signal having one or more program step characteristics is determined. The determined BER and a target BER is compared. In response to the determined BER being different than the target BER, one or more program step characteristics are adjusted to adjust the determined BER to the target BER.

Exemplary methods, apparatuses, and systems include receiving a plurality of read operations. The read operations are divided into a current set of a sequence of read operations and one or more other sets. The size of the current set is a first number of read operations. An aggressor read operation is selected from the current set. A first data integrity scan is performed on a victim of the aggressor and a first indicator of data integrity is determined based on the first data integrity scan. A scaling factor is determined using the indicator of data integrity and a number of program erase cycles for the portion of memory. The set size of read operations is adjusted to a second number of read operations using the scaling factor for a subsequent set.
