RESILIENT DATA STORAGE SYSTEM WITH EFFICIENT SPACE MANAGEMENT
A storage system has a plurality of storage nodes having equal non-volatile storage capacity that is subdivided into equal size cells. Host application data that is stored in the cells is protected using RAID or EC protection groups each having members stored in ones of the cells and distributed across the storage nodes such that no more than one member of any single protection group is stored by any one of the storage nodes. Spare cells are maintained for rebuilding protection group members of a failed one of the storage nodes on remaining non-failed storage nodes so full data access is possible before replacement or repair of the failed storage node.
Using erasure coding in a single region to reduce the likelihood of losing objects maintained in cloud object storage
Techniques for using erasure coding in a single region to reduce the likelihood of losing objects in a cloud object storage platform are provided. In one set of embodiments, a computer system can upload a plurality of data objects to a region of a cloud object storage platform, where the plurality of data objects including modifications to a data set. The computer system can further compute a parity object based on the plurality of data objects, where the parity object encodes parity information for the plurality of data objects. The computer system can then upload the parity object to the same region where the plurality of data objects was uploaded.
Servicing data storage devices in a data storage array
Systems and methods for replacing and testing a data storage device are disclosed. In disclosed embodiments, a system including a data storage array (DSA) including a plurality of data storage devices (DSDs) in an enclosure. The system further includes an I/O server coupling the DSA to a client node and configured to provide data access between the client node and the DSA. The system further includes a management server coupled to the DSA, configured to detect a failed DSD in the DSA, detect a replacement DSD in the enclosure that replaces the failed DSD, and add the replacement DSD to a logical path of the DSA. The management server is further configured to display an indication of a state of the DSA based on the comparing.
Method, device, and program product for managing storage pool of storage system
Storage devices in a pool are divided into at least one group with a first number of storage devices in an existing group not higher than a range. When a second number of storage devices are added to the resource pool, a sum of the first number and the second number is determined. A new group is created based on at least a portion of the second number of storage devices when the sum does not satisfy the range; and another portion of the second number of storage devices are added to the existing group. A first storage space portion in each of a set of shared storage devices selected from the existing group is allocated to the existing group, and a second storage space portion in each of the set of shared storage devices is allocated to the new group. The storage space utilization rate can be increased.
Data reconstruction method, apparatus, electronic device, and storage medium
Disclosed is a data reconstruction method and apparatus, and an electronic device, and a storage medium. The method comprises: obtaining attribute information for a plurality of to-be-reconstructed data items; wherein the attribute information of any of the to-be-reconstructed data items is information recorded before the to-be-reconstructed data item is lost; determining, according to the attribute information for the plurality of to-be-reconstructed data items, a reconstruction order for the plurality of to-be-reconstructed data items in a preset target sorting manner; wherein, the target sorting manner relates to the attribute information, and in the target sorting manner, a data item of greater importance has a higher priority in reconstruction. Recovery rate of important data is increased.
METHOD, DEVICE AND COMPUTER PROGRAM PRODUCT FOR STORAGE MANAGEMENT
Techniques for storage management involve determining a plurality of storage units to be reconstructed on a group of disks, the plurality of storage units being distributed on different disks in the group of disks. Such techniques further involve selecting, based on the distribution of the plurality of storage units on the group of disks, a group of storage units from the plurality of storage units so that different storage units in the group of storage units are distributed on different disks. Such techniques further involve performing concurrent reconstruction on the group of storage units.
Stand-by storage nodes in storage network
A method for execution by a storage network, the method begins by determining a failure rate of storage nodes of an active storage pool, establishing a number of standby storage nodes based on the determined failure rate, identifying resource identifiers for the failed storage node, selecting an available standby storage node, facilitating populating the selected available standby storage node with data slices associated with the failed storage node, utilizing the selected available standby storage node, facilitating population of a replacement storage node with the data slices from the selected available standby storage node and facilitating processing of further receive data access requests for data associated with the associated resource identifiers by utilizing the replacement storage node.
Using erasure coding across multiple regions to reduce the likelihood of losing objects maintained in cloud object storage
Techniques for using erasure coding across multiple regions to reduce the likelihood of losing objects in a cloud object storage platform are provided. In one set of embodiments, a computer system can upload each of a plurality of data objects to each of a plurality of regions of the cloud object storage platform. The computer system can further compute a parity object based on the plurality of data objects, where the parity object encodes parity information for the plurality of data objects. The computer system can then upload the parity object to another region of the cloud object storage platform different from the plurality of regions.
Method and system utilizing quintuple parity to provide fault tolerance
An error correction and fault tolerance method and system for an array of disks is presented. The array comprises k+5 disks, where k disks store user data and 5 disks store computed parity. The present invention further comprises a method and a system for reconstituting the original content of each of the k+5 disks, when up to 5 disks have been lost, wherein the number of disks at unknown locations is E and the number of disks wherein the location of the disks is known is Z. All combinations of faulty disks wherein Z+2×E≤4 are reconstituted. Some combinations of faulty disks wherein Z+2×E≥5 are either reconstituted, or errors are limited to a small list.
VARIABLE SPARING OF DISK DRIVES IN STORAGE ARRAY
In general, embodiments relate to a managing a Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) group. The embodiments include determining a minimum and maximum set of spare disks to allocate to the RAID group, wherein the RAID group comprises a plurality of active members, allocating the minimum number of spare members to the RAID group, allocating an additional spare member to the RAID group, setting a mode of the additional spare member to storage mode, enabling, after the setting, the RAID controller to store data in the plurality of active members and in the additional spare member, wherein the plurality of active members, the minimum number of spare members, and the additional spare member comprise persistent storage.
