Preventing DBMS deadlock by eliminating shared locking

A DBMS receives a database-access request that includes an instruction to non-destructively read a database table row. The DBMS assigns the request a TSN identifier and creates a TSN image that identifies all TSNs assigned to transactions that are not yet committed. The DBMS traverses a linked list of log entries that identifies a chronological history of transactions performed on the same row. The DBMS infers that the table row currently contains data stored by the most recently logged transaction that is not contained in the TSN image and that has thus been committed. The DBMS then continues to process statements of the transaction based on the assumption that the row contains the inferred value. The DBMS performs this procedure without acquiring a shared lock on the data page or on the index leaf page that points to the table row.

Data subscription management system

A method includes a digital subscription management system (DSMS) receiving from a source system a request to perform an edit of at least one data object, the DSMS sending a request for response (RFR) to subscribing systems having a copy of the at least one data object, the DSMS receiving a response from the subscribing systems, and the DSMS performing the edit.

Garbage collection for a deduplicated cloud tier using functions

Systems and methods for performing data protection operations including garbage collection operations and copy forward operations. For deduplicated data stored in a cloud-based storage or in a cloud tier that stores containers containing dead and live segments or dead and live regions such as compression regions, the dead compression regions are deleted by copying the live compression regions into new containers and then deleting the old containers. The copy forward is based on a recipe from a data protection system and is performed using a serverless approach.

Provided are a data archiving method and apparatus capable of providing a remote near-line data archiving function by receiving remote function invoking from a target system in which data is stored, providing the target system with a first function for archiving, in a storage system, at least some of the data stored in the target system over a network in response to the remote function invoking, and providing the target system with a second function for the query of the data archived in the storage system over the network.

Dynamic updating of query result displays

Described are methods, systems and computer readable media for dynamic updating of query result displays.

File Storage Method and Apparatus, and Device and Readable Storage Medium
20230008406 · 2023-01-12 ·

A file storage method, apparatus, device and a readable storage medium. The method includes: performing striping processing on a target file to obtain multiple target objects, and calculating fingerprint information of each target object; using a first target object and logical information of the target file to form a logical header object, and storing the logical header object in a storage system; using the fingerprint information of each second target object to determine whether the second target object has been stored in the storage system; and if the second target object has not been stored in the storage system, determining the second target object as a third target object and storing same in the storage system. According to the method, logical information of each file can be preserved, and files of some users can be prevented from being modified or deleted after deduplication is performed in the storage system.

Systems and methods for managing single instancing data

Described in detail herein are systems and methods for managing single instancing data. Using a single instance database and other constructs (e.g. sparse files), data density on archival media (e.g. magnetic tape) is improved, and the number of files per storage operation is reduced. According to one aspect of a method for managing single instancing data, for each storage operation, a chunk folder is created on a storage device that stores single instancing data. The chunk folder contains three files: 1) a file that contains data objects that have been single instanced; 2) a file that contains data objects that have not been eligible for single instancing; and 3) a metadata file used to track the location of data objects within the other files. A second storage operation subsequent to a first storage operation contains references to data objects in the chunk folder created by the first storage operation instead of the data objects themselves.

INFORMATION PROCESSING APPARATUS AND METHOD, RECORDING MEDIUM, AND PROGRAM

Information processing apparatus and method, recording medium, and program are provided. An information processing apparatus includes the following elements. A receiver receives a command requesting for the execution of predetermined processing. A storage unit stores data and first information indicating, among a plurality of stages in a lifecycle of the information processing apparatus, the current stage determined by the stored data and second information indicating an executable command in the current stage, the executable command being determined for each of the plurality of stages. A determining unit determines on the basis of the first information and the second information whether the command received by the receiver is an executable command in the current stage.

Mechanism for Deprecating Object Oriented Data
20180004794 · 2018-01-04 ·

Techniques are described to allow the deprecation of classes in an object-oriented data model, such as a CDM for a CMDB. When a class is deprecated and replaced by another existing or new class, data associated with instances of the deprecated class may be migrated to the replacement class. A mapping between the deprecated class and its replacement class may be provided to allow existing applications to continue to access data using the deprecated class without change until the deprecated class is finally deleted or the application is updated to use the replacement class. New applications written to use the object-oriented data model after the deprecation may use the replacement class to access data instances created using the original data model.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MANAGING STORAGE SPACE ON STORAGE DEVICE IN AN ELECTRONIC APPARATUS BY USING CONTEXT DATA AND USER PROFILE DATA

A method and apparatus for reserving a usable storage space on a storage device is provided. The method includes collecting context data representing an environment surrounding the storage device; selecting at least one file from among files stored in the storage device by using at least one of the context data and user profile data; and processing the selected file and reserving a usable storage space on the storage device. The method reserves the usable storage space by using the context data or user profile data, thereby allowing efficient reserving of usable storage space without a user's manual intervention and preventing waste of unnecessary resources.
