Cloud Queue Tombstone
20230231901 · 2023-07-20 ·

Example techniques relate to cloud queue tombstones. An example implementation may involve a computing system receiving instructions to remove a particular media item from a playback queue. Based on the instructions, the computing system removes the particular media item from the playback queue and adds, to the playback queue, a tombstone indicator indicating that the particular media item has been removed from the playback queue. The computing system receives, from the media playback system, a request for a window of one or more media items from the playback queue. Based on the request, the computing system sends, to the media playback system, data representing a particular window of media items from the playback queue, wherein the particular window includes the tombstone indicator. The computing system detects a given tombstone removal trigger from among multiple tombstone removal triggers and based on the detecting, removes the tombstone indicator from the playback queue.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR GENERATING A PERSONALIZED CONCERT PLAYLIST
20230222563 · 2023-07-13 ·

A method, which may be performed at an electronic device, such as a media server associated with a media-providing service, causes a set of media items to be provided to a user based on identifying performance listings relevant to the user. The method includes determining a list of one or more performance listings of artists relevant to a user based on a media consumption history of the user, the media consumption history describing media content items previously delivered to the user by a media content server, and a listening profile of a second user, distinct from the first user, the listening profile identifying media content and artists played by the second user via the media content server. The method includes providing one or more media items to the user, the one or more media items selected based on the list of one or more performance listings.

Information display regarding playback queue subscriptions

Example techniques relate to playback queue subscriptions. An example implementation involves a computing system receiving, from a first computing device associated with a first user account, an instruction to enable subscription to a first playback queue associated with a first media playback system. In response to the instruction, the computing system enables second user accounts to subscribe to the first playback queue. The second user accounts are registered with respective second media playback systems in respective second household. The computing system receives, from a particular second media playback system, a request to subscribe to the first playback queue; and in response, sends one or more messages that update a control interface of the first control device to display a subscriber indication and (ii) sends one or more messages that populate a second playback queue of the particular second media playback system with audio tracks of the first playback queue.

Media content item recommendation system

A media content item recommendation system recommends media content items based on one or more attributes of a seed playlist. The recommended media content items can be determined from a plurality of existing playlists that have been created over a period of time. Such existing playlists can be selected based on similarity to the seed playlist.

Generating breakpoints in media playback
11550839 · 2023-01-10 · ·

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for determining breakpoints in a media item. Methods can include determining a candidate set of breakpoints within a media item. A machine learning model is used to generate a score for each particular candidate breakpoint in the set of candidate breakpoints based on presentation features of the media item. A subset of candidate breakpoints is selected from the set of candidate breakpoints based on the score. A final set of breakpoints is selected from the subset of candidate breakpoints based on a combination of the score for each particular candidate breakpoint and a location of the particular candidate breakpoint relative to a different candidate breakpoint. The final set of breakpoints is stored in a database and during playback of the media item, a digital component is presented when the media item reaches a stored breakpoint.

PERSONAL PROGRAM AND CHANNEL GUIDE DATABASE

Embodiments generally relate to providing a personalized program and channel guide database. In some embodiments, a method includes receiving a personalized database request from a user. The method further includes obtaining one or more playlists from one or more corresponding content providers. The method further includes generating a personalized database for the user, where the personalized database includes the one or more playlists.

Policies for media playback

Example techniques related to polices for media playback systems. An example implementation involves a computing system receiving data representing a request to play back first audio tracks on one or more first playback devices of a first media playback system. The first media playback system is associated with a first subscriber to a streaming media service and the first media playback system is physically located in a first commercial establishment. The computing system determines that the first subscriber is associated with one or more first subscriber policies of the streaming media service and sends instructions to play back the first audio tracks on the one or more first playback devices according to the one or more first subscriber policies of the streaming media service.

Mechanism to handle interrupted playback experience for media items in playlists
11526546 · 2022-12-13 · ·

A method may include in response to a user request for a playlist, identifying, by a processing device, a plurality of media items from the playlist, for each of the plurality of media items, determining whether a respective media item is available for a playback on a user device, in response to a determination that the respective media item is not available for the playback on the user device, causing the use device to advance to a next media item on the playlist without user interaction, and in response to a determination that the respective media item is available for the playback on the user device, causing the user device to play the respective media item.

Secure fast channel change
11520915 · 2022-12-06 · ·

Techniques for secure fast channel change in live content streaming are described. In some embodiments, during content preparation, a packager and/or an encoder encrypts media content items at both the service level (e.g., by encrypting a first portion of the plurality of segments with a service level access key unique to a service) and the channel level (e.g., by encrypting a second portion of the plurality of segments with a channel level access key unique to a channel associated with the service). On the receiving end, a client device (e.g., a media player) requests a service level access key prior to content acquisition. As such, a client can join any channel on a segment protected with the service level key without waiting for a license for that channel first, and the channel license can be acquired in parallel with the content acquisition during channel switching.

Transferring playback from a mobile device to a playback device

A first connection state may be entered on a computing device. While the computing device is in the first connection state, actions taken on a playlist on the computing device may be applied to the playlist and not applied to a playback queue associated with a zone. An input may be received via the computing device, indicating a selection of the zone. In response to receiving the input, a second connection state may be entered. Entering the second connection state may comprise establishing a connected state between the computing device and the one or more playback devices. While the connected state is established, one or more actions taken on the playlist on the computing device may be applied to the playlist and transmitted, in a message to the zone over a network. The one or more actions may be one or more corresponding actions applied to the playback queue.
