Enhanced error recovery for data storage drives
Methods and systems for enhanced error recovery are described. A first one or more data blocks to write to a first drive are received by a first drive controller module. A first parity block is calculated by the first drive controller module based on a first data block parity group. The first one or more data blocks are written by the first drive controller module to the first drive. The first parity block is written by the first drive controller module to the first drive.
Alternate storage arrangement in a distributed data storage system with key-based addressing
In a Distributed Virtual Array data storage system, data chunks making up data containers and identified by keys, which are independent of physical storage locations, are written in storage devices according to layouts specified in a layout data structure. When any of the storage devices becomes inaccessible, the chunks nominally designated to be written in the inaccessible storage devices are instead written to alternate devices. Information indicating writing to an alternate device may be included in or along with such chunks so as to make them easily identifiable during later reconstruction or re-writing to the intended storage device when it again becomes available.
Decoupled reliability groups
Methods and apparatuses for updating members of a data storage reliability group are provided. In one exemplary method, a reliability group includes a data zone in a first storage node and a checksum zone in a second data storage node. The method includes updating a version counter associated with the data zone in response to destaging a data object from a staging area of the data zone to a store area of the data zone without synchronizing the destaging with the state of the checksum zone. The method further includes transmitting, from the data zone to the checksum zone, an update message indicating completion of the destaging of the data object, wherein the update message includes a current value of the version counter.
