INDICATING FAILED CARD READING TO IDENTIFY DEFECTIVE TRANSACTION CARD AND/OR DEFECTIVE TRANSACTION TERMINAL

In some implementations, a point of sale (POS) system may store a card read failure indication based on detecting that a transaction terminal failed to read information associated with a transaction card, wherein the card read failure indication includes information that indicates whether the transaction terminal failed to read the information associated with the transaction card from a chip, a magnetic stripe, or a contactless device. The POS system may transmit information associated with the card read failure indication to an external device based on detecting a successful transaction subsequent to the transaction terminal failing to read the information associated with the transaction card, wherein the information associated with the card read failure indication is transmitted to enable the external device to determine whether one or more of the transaction card or the transaction terminal is defective.

DUAL-MODE RFID DEVICES
20220414417 · 2022-12-29 ·

Dual-mode RFID devices are provided with an integrated dual-mode RFID strap including either a UHF/HF dual-mode RFID chip or the combination of a UHF RFID chip and an HF RFID chip. An HF antenna and a UHF antenna are both coupled to the integrated dual-mode RFID strap, with the UHF antenna being formed by an approach other than etching, such as a cutting or printing operation, thereby reducing the cost to manufacture the device. If a pair of chips is employed, one of the chips may have a greater thickness than the other chip, which allows for the thicker chip to be incorporated into the device after the thinner chip without requiring a minimum separation between the two chips due to the size of a thermode used to secure the chips. Additionally, the first chip may be tested before securing the second chip, thereby limiting the cost of a rejected device.

RF COMMUNICATION DEVICE WITHOUT TEMPORARY CONNECTION LINE, AND MANUFACTURING METHOD

It is described an RF communication device comprising: i) an RF antenna functionality; ii) at least one antenna pad connected to the RF antenna functionality; iii) a further functionality which is not an RF antenna functionality; and iv) at least one non-antenna pad electrically connected to the further functionality.

The antenna pad and the non-antenna pad are arranged to be short-circuited with each other, and the non-antenna pad is electrically connected via a connection line to the further functionality within the RF communication device.

Further, a method of manufacturing an RF communication device is described.

System and method for detecting the depth of an antenna in the card body of a smart card
09836682 · 2017-12-05 · ·

A system for detecting the depth of an antenna embedded in the card body of a smart card includes a milling device for forming a cavity in the card body, a test device disposed in close proximity to the card body, a vector network analyzer (VNA) for measuring a linear characteristic of the test device, and a control device for regulating operation of the milling device in view of data collected by the VNA. In use, the VNA generates a test signal and measures the degree of signal reflection from the test device. Under normal conditions, the VNA observes a spike in forward return loss at the natural resonant frequency of the open antenna circuit. However, at the instant that the milling device contacts the antenna, a notable variance in the degree of signal reflection is observed which indicates that the proper antenna depth has been reached.

Method and Device of Managing Materials

The present application provides a method and device of managing materials. In processes of manufacturing display devices, circuit board identifiers of flexible circuit boards and panel identifiers of display panels are obtained, and then the circuit board identifiers are bound with the panel identifiers. In a later stage, material management is performed on the display panels according to the circuit board identifiers. Based on the circuit board identifiers, sources of the display panels can be traced, so that no industrial inkjet printers are required and thus costs of material management can be reduced.

DEVICE AND METHOD FOR DETECTING OPENING OF OR AN ATTEMPT TO OPEN A CLOSED CONTAINER

A closed container includes a detection device for detecting opening of or an attempt to open the container. The detection device includes a contactless passive transponder that is configured to communicate with a reader via an antenna using a carrier signal. An integrated circuit of the transponder includes two input terminals connected to the antenna and two output terminals linked by a first electrically conductive wire having a severable part which is severed in the event of an opening of or an attempted opening of the container. A shorting circuit is configured to short-circuit a first output terminal with a first input terminal in the event of a conductive repair of the severed part which forms an electrical connection between the two output terminals.

RFID integrated circuit identifier self-check

A Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag IC stores an identifier and a check code. The IC determines whether the stored identifier is corrupted by comparing it to the check code. If the stored identifier does not correspond to the check code then the IC may terminate operation or indicate an error. The IC may also reconstruct the correct identifier from the check code.

System and method for testing energy harvesting internet of things (IoT) tags

A system and method for method for testing an energy harvesting tag, comprising: transmitting a harvesting signal to an energy harvesting tag at time T.sub.1; receiving a response signal from the energy harvesting tag at time T.sub.2; determining a capacitor charging time of the energy harvesting tag as a difference between T.sub.2 and T.sub.1; and assigning a pass value to the energy harvesting tag when the capacitor charging time is less than a predetermined threshold amount.

IC card, portable electronic device, IC card processing method and program

According to an embodiment, an IC card comprises a sensor, a storage, and a processor. The sensor obtains information for authentication. The storage stores an authentication list showing one or more authentication methods which use information from the sensor. The processor determines whether if there is an abnormality exists in the sensor. If it determines that the sensor is indeed abnormal, it updates the authentication list accordingly.

METHODS AND ARRANGEMENTS TO DETECT A PAYMENT INSTRUMENT MALFUNCTION
20220398422 · 2022-12-15 · ·

Logic may detect a malfunctioning payment interface on a customer's payment instrument. Logic may receive transaction data about at least one transaction performed via a payment instrument associated with a customer. The transaction data may indicate a payment interface of the payment instrument through which the customer conducted the at least one transaction and the payment instrument may comprise one or more payment interfaces. Logic may determine, by a model, based on the transaction data, a probability of a malfunction by at least one interface of the one or more payment interfaces. The model may be trained based on a pattern of transactions associated with malfunctioning payment instruments. Logic may compare the probability of the transaction against a threshold. And logic may determine whether to contact a customer associated with the payment instrument, based comparison of the probability of the transaction against the threshold.
