INDICATING FAILED CARD READING TO IDENTIFY DEFECTIVE TRANSACTION CARD AND/OR DEFECTIVE TRANSACTION TERMINAL

In some implementations, a point of sale (POS) system may store a card read failure indication based on detecting that a transaction terminal failed to read information associated with a transaction card, wherein the card read failure indication includes information that indicates whether the transaction terminal failed to read the information associated with the transaction card from a chip, a magnetic stripe, or a contactless device. The POS system may transmit information associated with the card read failure indication to an external device based on detecting a successful transaction subsequent to the transaction terminal failing to read the information associated with the transaction card, wherein the information associated with the card read failure indication is transmitted to enable the external device to determine whether one or more of the transaction card or the transaction terminal is defective.

A payment terminal can have a near field communication (NFC) circuit to permit the payment terminal to accept an NFC payment transaction from a payment device of a customer. The NFC circuit can have a first set of components that are located on a printed circuit board in the base of the payment terminal and a second set of components that are mounted on a flex circuit in another region of the payment terminal. The flex circuit can be coupled to the printed circuit board and have an extended portion with a plurality of traces to communicate transmit and receive data between the first set of components and the second set of components. The plurality of traces on the extended portion can have a predetermined length that is greater than or equal to 2.5% of the propagation-medium-specific wavelength of the carrier signal communicated over the traces.

Identification device, identification system and method for identifying an object

An identification device is provided having an optical detector (1), a controller (5) and an identification transmitter unit (6), wherein the optical detector (1) has a detection area with an identification pattern partially covering the detection area and the controller (5) is designed to interact with the detector (1) and the identification transmitter unit (6) in such a manner that the identification transmitter unit (6) can be activated to transmit an identification signal depending on an analysis of the temporal sequence of measurement signals from the detector (1). A method is also provided for identifying an object by an identification system.

Systems and methods for preventing fraudulent credit card and debit card transactions

A system and method for preventing fraudulent credit card or debit card transactions by coupling a smart phone to the credit card or the debit card, and transmitting identification information from the smart phone to the card. The card is normally disabled such that no transaction may take place unless the card is enabled. The card receives the transmitted identification information and compares that information to corresponding information stored on the card. If the received information matches the stored information, the card is enabled thus allowing the transaction to take place.

RFID reader to determine an estimated resonant frequency of a RFID tag
11562156 · 2023-01-24 · ·

A method begins by a radio frequency identification (RFID) reader transmitting a first and second radio frequency (RF) signal of a plurality of RF signals, which each include a unique carrier frequency and an instruction to an RFID tag to respond with a received power level indication. The method continues by the RFID reader receiving, in response to the first and second signals sent at a first and second carrier frequency, a first and second response from the RFID tag that includes a first and second received power level indication. The method continues by the RFID reader determining an estimated resonant frequency of the RFID tag based on the first and second received power level indications and the first and second carrier frequencies.

TAG READING APPARATUS AND TAG READING CONTROL METHOD
20230018731 · 2023-01-19 ·

According to an embodiment, a tag reading apparatus acquires tag data of a wireless tag to be learned without transmission from the wireless tag to be learned. The tag reading apparatus extracts a data signal from a reception signal output from an antenna that has received a radio wave from the wireless tag to be learned. The tag reading apparatus learns the extracted data signal in association with correct answer data of the wireless tag to be learned.

Main Device, Sub-device and Communication System
20230214607 · 2023-07-06 ·

The present disclosure provides a main device, a sub-device and a communication system. The sub-device includes a receiver, a status signal transmitter, a read memory, and a status setting unit. The receiver is configured to receive a read command from the main device. The status signal transmitter is configured to transmit a status signal to the main device. The status setting unit is configured to determine whether a read data has been prepared in the read memory. When the read data has been prepared in the read memory, the status signal is set to a first state. When the read data has not been prepared in the read memory, the status signal is set to a second state.

Usage, condition and location tag and system

A Usage, Condition and Location System (UCLS) tag is provided, which is an active RFID tag that, in addition to location, is configured to determine the usage state and operating condition of a device. The UCLS tag includes sensors that measure physical activity of the associated equipment (vibration, magnetic activity, temperature, etc.). Algorithms may use the information obtained from the UCLS tags to map the measured sensor data to a contextual usage state and operating condition of the device.

Method of managing an output power delivered by an antenna of a NFC apparatus and NFC apparatus

In an embodiment, a method of managing an output power delivered by an antenna of a NFC apparatus includes: providing a matching circuit with a first tuning capacitive network coupled in series between a NFC controller and the antenna and with a second tuning capacitive network coupled to the NFC controller and the antenna and to a reference terminal, wherein the first or second tuning capacitive network has a variable capacitive value; determining tuning capacitive values of the first tuning capacitive networks to adjust a delivered output power at a desired level; and setting the tuning capacitive values of the first tuning capacitive network to the tuning capacitive values.
