Physical object boundary detection techniques and systems are described. In one example, an augmented reality module generates three dimensional point cloud data. This data describes depths at respective points within a physical environment that includes the physical object. A physical object boundary detection module is then employed to filter the point cloud data by removing points that correspond to a ground plane. The module then performs a nearest neighbor search to locate a subset of the points within the filtered point cloud data that correspond to the physical object. Based on this subset, the module projects the subset of points onto the ground plane to generate a two-dimensional boundary. The two-dimensional boundary is then extruded based on a height determined from a point having a maximum distance from the ground plane from the filtered cloud point data.

In some embodiments, a computing system can receive prescription data identifying one or more amounts of respective medications, and can generate, using the prescription data, an estimate of weight of a package containing the one or more amounts of the respective medications. The computing system can then cause, at a time before automated packing of the respective medications into the package, a second computing system to provide shipping data for the package. The shipping data includes first data defining a shipping label. The second computing system can be remotely located relative to the computing system. The computing system can receive the shipping data at a second time before the automated packing of the respective medications into the package, and also can store the shipping data in a storage device.

Estimating shipping costs with machine learning

Disclosed herein are system, method, and computer program product embodiments for estimating shipping costs of items purchased in an online market using machine learning techniques. By determining in real-time the dimensional weight of an item with reference to a machine learning model describing past transactions, a buyer and seller in the online market can finalize the transaction in real-time. The machine learning model further implements a bias within the machine learning algorithm towards heavier estimation to avoid undercharging the market participants for shipping costs. One embodiment involves using these cost-estimation techniques in the context of a local shipping feature, which allows buyers and sellers to schedule a same-day delivery by seamlessly involving a local carrier.
