Method, computer readable medium, and apparatus of recognizing character zone in a digital document. In an embodiment, the method includes classifying a segment of the digital document as including text, calculating at least one parameter value associated with the classified segment of the digital document, determining, based on the calculated at least one parameter value, a zonal parameter value, classifying the segment of the digital document as a handwritten text zone or as a printed text zone based on the determined zonal parameter value and a threshold value, the threshold value being based on a selection of an intersection of a handwritten text distribution profile and a printed text distribution profile, each of the handwritten text distribution profile and the printed text distribution profile being associated with a zonal parameter corresponding to the determined zonal parameter value, and generating, based on the classifying, a modified version of the digital document.

A display apparatus includes circuitry that receives a plurality of stroke data input to a touch panel by an input device and displays the plurality of stroke data. The plurality of stroke data includes first stroke data and second stroke data input after the first stroke data. The circuitry sets a determination area differently depending on whether an elapsed time from separation of the input device from the touch panel after input of the first stroke data exceeds a threshold. The determination area is for determining whether to include the second stroke data in a recognition group including the first stroke data. The circuitry performs character recognition on the recognition group and displays, on a screen, a result of the character recognition.

A character segmentation method and apparatus, and a computer-readable storage medium. The character segmentation method comprises: converting a character area image into a grayscale image (step 101); converting the grayscale image into an edge binary image by using an edge detection algorithm (step 102); acquiring character box segmentation blocks from the edge binary image by using a projection method (step 103); and determining a target character area from the character box segmentation blocks by using a contour detection algorithm, and performing character segmentation on the character area image according to the target character area (step 104). Another character segmentation method comprises: converting a character area image into a grayscale image (step 701); performing clustering analysis on the grayscale image by using a fuzzy C-means clustering algorithm, and executing binarization processing on the grayscale image according to a clustering analysis result (step 702); acquiring character positioning blocks from a binary image by using a projection method (step 703); and performing character segmentation on the character area image according to position information of the character positioning blocks (step 704). By using the methods and apparatuses, character segmentation can be performed on a relatively low quality image.

A system, method and computer program product for use in managing collaboration on documents having digital ink on a network of computing devices is disclosed. Each computing device has a processor and at least one system application for processing handwriting input under control of the processor. The system application displays, on a display associated with one of the computing devices, a document having digital ink based on a journal of the document, defines the journal to have journal entries associated with at least handwriting input to the document represented by the digital ink, and communicates the journal entries of the journal with one or more of the other networked computing devices displaying the document. The handwriting input associated with the journal entries is handwriting input to the document via the input interface of any of the computing devices displaying the document based on the communicated journal entries.

A method of identifying characters in images extracts features of a detection image including characters. Enhancement processing is performed on the detection image according to the features to obtain an enhanced image. Closed edges of the characters are detected in the enhanced image. First rectangular outlines of the characters are determined according to the closed edges. The first rectangular outlines are corrected to obtain second rectangular outlines. The characters are cropped from the detection image according to the second rectangular outlines. The method identifies characters in images accurately and rapidly.

Method, computer readable medium, and apparatus of recognizing character zone in a digital document. A method, apparatus, electronic device, and storage medium for character recognition are provided. The method may perform image processing on an acquired original image to obtain a region to be recognized. The region may include a character. The method may determine an area ratio of the region to be recognized on the original image. The method may determine an angle between the region to be recognized and a preset direction. The method may determine a character density of the region to be recognized. The method may perform character recognition on the character in the region to be recognized in response to determining that the area ratio is greater than a ratio threshold, the angle is less than an angle threshold, and the character density is less than a density threshold.

A method and system for inserting hand-written text is disclosed. The method includes detecting, from a stylus, an insertion gesture on a touch screen, determining, on the touch screen, an insertion location where the hand-written text is to be inserted, generating, on the touch screen, an insertion box for receiving the hand-written text from the stylus, detecting, from the stylus, the hand-written text in the insertion box, and, in response to determining that the hand-written text nears or exceeds a boundary of the insertion box, increasing a size of the insertion box to accommodate the hand-written text. The method further includes detecting, from the stylus, a completion gesture on the touch screen, reducing the size of the insertion box to encapsulate the inserted hand-written text, and erasing the insertion box and inserting the hand-written text into a space previously occupied by the insertion box.

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for developing cognitive and behavioral metrics associated with a user. In some implementations, a system obtains data from a writing implement, the data indicative of a user performing a task by writing with the writing implement against a receiving device. The system extracts features from the obtained data. The system determines metrics that reflect characteristics of the user, the metrics that reflect cognitive characteristics of the user and metrics that reflect behavioral characteristics of the user. Based on the extracted features and the determined metrics, the system generates a user profile for the user. Based on the features indicating characteristics of the writing behavior of the user, the system modifies the generated user profile as a performance of the user changes over time. The system provides recommendations to improve the performance of the user.
