The circuitry performs character recognition on the recognition group and displays, on a screen, a result of the character recognition.

The character segmentation method comprises: converting a character area image into a grayscale image (step 101); converting the grayscale image into an edge binary image by using an edge detection algorithm (step 102); acquiring character box segmentation blocks from the edge binary image by using a projection method (step 103); and determining a target character area from the character box segmentation blocks by using a contour detection algorithm, and performing character segmentation on the character area image according to the target character area (step 104). Another character segmentation method comprises: converting a character area image into a grayscale image (step 701); performing clustering analysis on the grayscale image by using a fuzzy C-means clustering algorithm, and executing binarization processing on the grayscale image according to a clustering analysis result (step 702); acquiring character positioning blocks from a binary image by using a projection method (step 703); and performing character segmentation on the character area image according to position information of the character positioning blocks (step 704). By using the methods and apparatuses, character segmentation can be performed on a relatively low quality image.

The system application displays, on a display associated with one of the computing devices, a document having digital ink based on a journal of the document, defines the journal to have journal entries associated with at least handwriting input to the document represented by the digital ink, and communicates the journal entries of the journal with one or more of the other networked computing devices displaying the document. The handwriting input associated with the journal entries is handwriting input to the document via the input interface of any of the computing devices displaying the document based on the communicated journal entries.

First rectangular outlines of the characters are determined according to the closed edges. The first rectangular outlines are corrected to obtain second rectangular outlines. The characters are cropped from the detection image according to the second rectangular outlines. The method identifies characters in images accurately and rapidly.

The method includes detecting, from a stylus, an insertion gesture on a touch screen, determining, on the touch screen, an insertion location where the hand-written text is to be inserted, generating, on the touch screen, an insertion box for receiving the hand-written text from the stylus, detecting, from the stylus, the hand-written text in the insertion box, and, in response to determining that the hand-written text nears or exceeds a boundary of the insertion box, increasing a size of the insertion box to accommodate the hand-written text. The method further includes detecting, from the stylus, a completion gesture on the touch screen, reducing the size of the insertion box to encapsulate the inserted hand-written text, and erasing the insertion box and inserting the hand-written text into a space previously occupied by the insertion box.
