A money item handling system, comprising a mixed denomination money item storage region comprising at least one money item outlet routing; at least one money item collection zone arranged to receive mixed denomination money items outlet through the at least one money item outlet routing; at least one money item conveyor arranged to collect money items from the at least one money item collection zone and to convey money items collected from the at least one money item collection zone around a path of the at least one money item conveyor; at least one money item flow control apparatus; and at least one actuator configured to controllably actuate the at least one money item flow control apparatus to selectively control movement of money items from the mixed denomination money item storage region to the at least one money item collection zone.

A currency processing system is disclosed which includes a housing with a coin input area for receiving coins and coin receptacles for stowing processed coins. A disk-type coin processing unit includes a rotatable disk for imparting motion to input coins, and a sorting head for separating and discharging coins from exit stations. An automated coin chute receives coins from one of the exit stations. The automated coin chute includes a movable diverter plate that selectively transitions between a first position, whereby coins received from the exit station of the disk-type coin processing unit are redirected through a coin-recycling output passage to a coin-recycling receptacle, and a second position, whereby coins received from the exit station are redirected through a coin-depositing output passage to a coin-depositing receptacle.

Currency processing systems, coin processing machines, coin sorting and recycling assemblies, and methods of making and methods of using the same are presented herein. A currency processing system is disclosed which includes a housing with a coin input area for receiving coins and coin receptacles for stowing processed coins. A disk-type coin processing unit includes a rotatable disk for imparting motion to input coins, and a sorting head for separating and discharging coins from exit stations. An automated coin chute receives coins from one of the exit stations. The automated coin chute includes a movable diverter plate that selectively transitions between a first position, whereby coins received from the exit station of the disk-type coin processing unit are redirected through a coin-recycling output passage to a coin-recycling receptacle, and a second position, whereby coins received from the exit station are redirected through a coin-depositing output passage to a coin-depositing receptacle.

Methods and systems are provided for a coin sorting apparatus. In one example, a coin sorting apparatus is configured to receive a coin wrapper without moving a coin tube.

A coin processing machine includes a coin support plate having a coin support surface defining a coin path extending from an intake location to a coin removal station. Depressions formed in the coin path reduce the likelihood of coins, particularly wet coins, from adhering to and stopping along the coin path.

Chip sorting devices may include a chip hopper having a relief mechanism for clearing chips that become jammed between a chip chamber and a base plate of the chip hopper. Methods of sorting chips may include actuating the relief mechanism to increase a space between a top plate of the relief mechanism and the chip chamber. Methods of setting up a chip sorting device may include adjusting an inner lateral dimension of the at least one chip collection tube.

A coin handling apparatus includes: a recognition unit; an arcuate coin track; a driving unit configured to move coins along the coin track in a single layer and a single file; a plurality of active sorting units disposed in the coin track and configured to actively sort the coins based on recognition results; and at least one passive sorting unit disposed in the coin track and configured to passively sort the coins.

A coin handling apparatus includes: a recognition unit; an arcuate coin track; a driving unit configured to move coins along the coin track in a single layer and a single file; a plurality of active sorting units disposed in the coin track and configured to actively sort the coins based on recognition results; and at least one passive sorting unit disposed in the coin track and configured to passively sort the coins.
