Document fraud detection

Potentially fraudulent documents can be identified automatically and flagged for further review. Document fraud detection can include a number of fraud detection tests, where if the document fails any of the tests, the document can be flagged for further review. Various tests can be performed that seek to determine whether a document has been altered. In one instance, a financial instrument can be scanned and analyzed to identify one or more layers associated with the financial instrument from a scanned representation, and a check of transaction details can be triggered when the financial instrument is associated with multiple layers.

PHOTONIC CRYSTAL MICROPATTERNS AND ANTI-COUNTERFEITING FILMS, METHODS OF MAKING, AND METHODS OF USE

Gas sensing identification

Components, systems, and methods for gas sensing identification are generally disclosed. In some embodiments, a characteristic of an article (e.g., identity, authenticity, property, product associated information such as age or quality, etc.) may be determined by determining the presence (e.g., an amount) or absence of a chemical compound (or compounds) emanating from the article. For example, the presence or absence of the compound (or compounds) emanating from the article identifies a characteristic of the article. In some embodiments, the chemical compound(s) has been proactively added to the article. That is to say, in some embodiments, the chemical compound is not inherently associated with the article but is added in order to, for example, identify a characteristic of the article.

Photothermally Responsive Melanin-Based Nanocomposltes

In various embodiments, the present invention is directed to photothermal-responsive melanin-based nanocomposites comprising a plurality of natural or synthetic melanin nanoparticles distributed with a polymer matrix suitable for use in anti-counterfeiting, photothermal responsive-communication, sensors, and heat management, among other applications. In some embodiments, the present invention will be an ink, paint, or other coating comprising the photothermal-responsive melanin-based nanocomposites. In some embodiments, the present invention is directed to a written message or design comprising one or more of the photothermal-responsive melanin-based nanocomposites. In some of these embodiments, the written message or design will be comprised of two ore more of the photothermal-responsive melanin-based nanocomposites having different concentrations of natural or synthetic melanin nanoparticles.

Counterfeit detection apparatus

Embodiments disclosed herein generally relate to an apparatus for counterfeit detection and a method implementing the same. In one embodiment, as apparatus is disclosed herein. The apparatus includes a first end, a second end, an elongated body, an ink cartridge, a controller, and a trigger. The elongated body extends from the first end to the second end. The elongated body defines a cavity therein. The ink cartridge is disposed in the cavity. The controller is positioned within the cavity. The controller is configured to communicate with at least one computing system remote from the apparatus. The trigger is in electronic communication with the controller. The trigger extends at least partially though the elongated body. The trigger is actionable between a first position and a second position. A change from the first position to the second position transmits an electronic signal to the controller.
