THICKNESS DETECTION DEVICE FOR SHEET MEDIUM
A thickness detection device for sheet-type medium includes a fixing frame, a reference shaft and a detection assembly shaft. A reference roller is fixedly sleeved on the reference shaft. At least one detection roller is provided on the detection assembly shaft, and the detection roller is in an elastic contact with the reference roller. The detection roller is sleeved on the detection assembly shaft by a bracket, the bracket has an elongated hole through which the bracket is sleeved on the detection assembly shaft, an elastic element is provided between an end of the elongated hole and the detection assembly shaft, and the elastic element enables the detection assembly shaft to elastically maintain a certain distance from the end of the elongated hole. Thus, thickness signal obtained is not interfered by banknote displacements in other directions, and thickness detection of the full banknote can be achieved.
Method of Determining Currency and Denomination of an Inserted Bill in a Bill Acceptor Having a Single Slot and Related Device
A method of determining a currency type and denomination of a bill inserted into a bill acceptor includes receiving the bill inserted into the bill acceptor, the bill acceptor being a single bill acceptor accepting bills of a plurality of currency types, scanning the inserted bill after receiving the inserted bill and determining physical attributes of the inserted bill, and comparing the physical attributes of the inserted bill with attribute characteristics of entries stored in a database. The method also includes determining whether the inserted bill has a matching entry in the database, determining the currency type and denomination of the inserted bill upon determining that the inserted bill has the matching entry in the database, and indicating the determined currency type and denomination and that the inserted bill was successfully accepted in response to determining that the inserted bill has the matching entry in the database.

THICKNESS DETECTION DEVICE
A thickness detection device that includes a roller, rollers being a plurality of rollers of a first group, rollers being a plurality of rollers of a second group, sensors being a plurality of sensors of a first group, and sensors being a plurality of sensors of a second group. The roller is a cylindrical fixed roller being rotatable around a shaft. The rollers are provided with an interval therebetween in an axial direction of the roller, with the respective rollers being arranged near the roller on an upstream side in a carrying direction of paper sheets. The movable rollers are provided with an interval therebetween so as to be in a staggered manner with respect to the rollers in the axial direction of the roller, with the respective rollers being arranged near the roller on a downstream side in the carrying direction.
Method of categorising defects in a media item
A media handler for detecting counterfeit media is described. The media handler comprises: a plurality of discrete sensors distributed along a transport path operable to transport a media item, and a controller operable to receive signals from the plurality of discrete sensors. The controller is also operable to make a decision on validity of the transported media item based on the received signals.
Device and method for checking value documents for marking ink
An apparatus and a corresponding method for checking value documents, involves at least one first sensor configured to detect electromagnetic radiation reflected and/or transmitted by a value document and to convert the radiation into corresponding first sensor signals. At least one second sensor is configured to detect sound waves reflected and/or transmitted by the value document and to convert the sound waves into corresponding second sensor signals, and an evaluation device configured to determine a first area value which characterizes a first area of the value document on the basis of the first sensor signals, to determine a second area value which characterizes a second area of the value document on the basis of the second sensor signals, and to infer a possible identification marking of the value document with a marking ink on the basis of the first and second area value.

Paper sheet handling machine and paper sheet handling method
A banknote handling machine includes: a distinguishing unit that distinguishes a given classifying condition covering the type according to which banknotes from multiple types of banknotes that are put in are classified; a plurality of depositories in corresponding ones of which the banknotes whose type is distinguished by the distinguishing unit are classified and housed according to the classifying condition before a transaction relating to the put-in banknotes is determined; a plurality of housing units in corresponding ones of which the banknotes that are sent from the corresponding depositories are classified and housed according to the classifying condition after the transaction is determined; and a controller that controls the depositories according to the classifying condition.
