Method and apparatus for saving system power
Theft increases the average product cost to consumers. A mentoring system is presented that can help to reduce or prevent the inventory from lost or theft. Theft is a serious concern in the consumer market place. Industry loses billions per year on theft of merchandise. According to a Reuters report, last year, thefts by employees of U.S. retail merchandise accounted for $15.9 billion, or 44 percent of theft losses at stores, more than shoplifting and vendor fraud combined. Thus, the total thief by the customers and store employees during the year 2008 amounted to $36 billion. Several embodiments of ways to control or reduce the thefts in the market place are presented.
Methods and systems for social distancing
A system for generating an alert in case of a social distancing breach in a facility including a first device and second device, each including a processor and a memory. The memory stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, facilitate performance of operations. The operations including receiving a first beacon signal from a second device and determining that a first condition associated with a payload of the first beacon signal is satisfied, determining that a second condition associated with a distance between the first device and the second device is satisfied. The operations further comprising generating an alert related to a social distancing warning in response to the first condition and the second condition being satisfied and in response to at least one of the first condition or second condition not being satisfied, not generating the alert.
COMBINATION NON-PROGRAMMABLE AND PROGRAMMABLE KEY FOR SECURITY DEVICE
A security device for an item of merchandise is provided. The security device includes a non-programmable locking mechanism comprising a mechanical lock and a programmable locking mechanism comprising a monitoring circuit operatively coupled to an alarm. The security device is configured to secure an item of merchandise from theft or removal when the mechanical lock is locked and to be separated from the item of merchandise when the mechanical lock is unlocked. The alarm is configured to provide an alarm signal if the security device is separated from the item of merchandise while the monitoring circuit is armed.

Event statistic generation method and apparatus for intrusion detection
A computer-implemented event statistic generation method for intrusion detection comprises processing a plurality of return signals from a coherent optical time domain reflectometer into time domain signals for each of a plurality of sensor bins, the plurality of return signals corresponding to a plurality of stimulation pulses injected into an optical sensor fiber during a time period. For each sensor bin, the method comprises transforming the respective time-domain signal into a corresponding frequency-domain signal, calculating, from the respective frequency-domain signal, a first signal power area of a first frequency band expected to contain system noise, calculating, from the respective frequency-domain signal, a second signal power area of a second frequency band expected to contain any energy related to at least a first event; and generating an event statistic proportional to the ratio of the second signal power area to the first signal power area at least in part by dividing the second signal power area by the first signal power area.
Systems and methods for protecting retail display merchandise from theft
Security systems and methods configured for use with an item of merchandise for retail display include a housing, at least one sensor carried by the housing and at least one output device carried by the housing. The security system further includes a controller carried by the housing and operably coupled to the sensor and to the output device. The controller is operable to determine a distance traveled by the item of merchandise from a retail display “home” position based upon a sensor input from the sensor, and to activate the output device based upon the distance traveled by the item of merchandise exceeding a threshold distance. The controller may utilize the at least one sensor in conjunction with an inertial navigation system (INS) and motion processing algorithms or techniques to determine the distance traveled by the item of merchandise from the retail display “home” position.

Product merchandising system with enhanced security features
This disclosure is directed to product merchandising systems that and designed to prevent brute force attempts to steal a product on display. The merchandising systems include security features that enhances the strength of the connection between a puck assembly and a base assembly and between the base assembly and a display surface. The merchandising systems are suited for withstanding brute force pulling attacks on the puck assembly and the base assembly.

System and method for detecting events in a system
A plurality of sensors are operably coupled to a system controller. Each sensor includes a detection mode in which the sensor applies one or more detection algorithms to sensor data generated by the corresponding sensor to detect a possible event and to report the possible event to the system controller, but does not report the system data to the system controller. Each sensor also includes a sensor data mode in which the sensor data is reported to the system controller. When one of the plurality of sensors reports a possible event to the system controller, the system controller instructs one or more of the plurality of sensors to switch from the detection mode to the sensor data mode. The system controller is configured to receive the sensor data and to process the received sensor data to confirm or otherwise provide a measure of confidence in the reported possible event.
