The illumination circuit board has an illumination component and a plurality of sockets. The slide is detachably mounted on the bottom casing. The top cover is located between the slide and the bottom casing. A pattern is formed on the slide. Because the slide of the alphabet lamp is detachable, the pattern on the alphabet lamp can be changed.

White LEDs internal to the housing provide light for energizing photoluminescent material. A legend panel housed within the housing defines openings corresponding to the legend. Photoluminescent material is disposed within the openings of the legend panel. The photoluminescent material is selected to be energizable by light from the white light source, and to emit light primarily in a selected wavelength range corresponding to a desired legend color. A color is filter disposed adjacent the photoluminescent material on a side of the legend panel opposite the light source. The color filter is selected to selectively transmit substantially all light in the selected wavelength range, and to selectively not transmit substantially all light outside the selected wavelength range.

In particular, the invention employs a clear diffuser holder (120) that is secured to the inside surface of el the face panel thereby providing a means of removeably attaching a diffuser (130). The invention permits interchangeably employing diffusers of different colors while providing resistance to vandalism.

The dual channel members include dual channels, where the first channel of each houses a strip of LEDs, and the second channel defines a channel into which an insert to be back or trans-illuminated can be inserted. Both dual channel members are attached to the post so that the first channels housing the strips of LEDs are positioned towards the post, while the second channels are positioned away from the post. The insert to be illuminated is receivable between the second channels (i.e., that face one another). The insert may include a house address number, or other characters cut-out or otherwise formed into the insert, so that light from the LED strips back or trans-illuminates the insert when received between the facing second channels. Deck rail lighting is also disclosed.
