Signs according to this application are be configured to output content on a display for viewing by bystanders, occupants of vehicles, and so forth. In some instances, the sign may be oriented to output content within a certain range of view angles relative to the sign. Additionally, content output by the sign may be based at least in part on characteristics of the environment in which the sign is located, a speed of the vehicle, a number of viewers within the viewing range of the sign, weather conditions, and so forth. Sensor(s) may sense conditions within the environment for controlling an operation of the sign. While examples are described herein in which signs include electronic displays, in some examples, signs according to this disclosure can be non-electronic (e.g., plastic, wood, paper, and/or metal signs with content painted, printed, or otherwise applied thereto).

An advertising sign comprises a main housing to accommodate an upright passing therethrough and configured to affix to the upright at a desired height. The main housing presents forward and rearward facing, generally planar, primary advertising surfaces. Retaining assemblies extend along opposite sides of the main housing. Each retaining assembly is configured to releasably retain a secondary advertising insert that presents forward and rearward facing advertising surfaces. Forward and rearward facing upper support panels extend upwardly from the main housing and are configured to support forward and rearward facing advertising onserts thereon. Forward and rearward facing lower support panels extend downwardly from the main housing and are configured to support forward and rearward facing advertising onserts thereon.

An electronic display portion comprising an electronic display within a housing is secured to a structural framework at a position elevated above a ground surface. A bulk energy storage device is located below the electronic display portion. A footprint of the solar energy harvesting device is smaller than footprints for the electronic display portion and bulk energy storage device.

Based on the vehicle characteristics, individual characteristics, driving data and driving patterns, and the like, digital content may be determined for electronic roadside displays to be viewable by the approaching vehicles, and/or other digital display devices to be viewable by associated individuals via other display devices and at other times. Various techniques may be used to determine customized digital content. Additionally, certain systems may be interactive to allow user responses and follow-up content via on-board vehicle devices or other user devices.

Free-standing vertical structures for displaying botanic media

A free-standing vertical structure is described including at least one wall structure having a plurality of live plants removably secured thereto. The wall structures may also include non-botanic media in combination with the plurality of plants such as traditional media, to form a new mixed media format for conveying information, herein referred to as botanic media. The plurality of plants may be configured to surround the non-botanic media to create a frame or border. The plants may also be arranged and configured to display information themselves. The non-botanic media and/or plants are configured on the wall structure to convey information readily perceivable by a passerby. The plants are preferably hydroponically-fed with nutrients and water from an irrigation system.

The cap panel assembly may include a cap panel, a puffing member attached to each edge of the cap panel, a cap panel insert positioned in-line with the cap panel, and a plurality of resilient members positioned on a front face of the cap panel insert. The plurality of resilient members may be tensioned, for example, to hold keepsakes, memorabilia, or other types of objects on or in the cap panel insert. The cap panel insert can include a mounting bracket or a screw and wire assembly for mounting the cap panel insert on a wall.
