A vehicular trailer hitching assist system includes a rear backup camera disposed at a rear portion of a vehicle and a control disposed in the vehicle. A display device includes a video display screen operable to display video images for viewing by a driver of the vehicle. During a hitching maneuver event undertaken by the driver to hitch a trailer hitch of the vehicle to a trailer tongue of a trailer, and while the driver of the vehicle is maneuvering the vehicle to hitch the vehicle to the trailer, the control outputs video images derived from image data captured by the rear backup camera for display by the video display screen. At least one overlay overlays the displayed video images to guide the driver during the hitching maneuver. The at least one overlay aids in guiding connection of the trailer hitch of the vehicle to the trailer tongue of the trailer.

The systems of the present invention maintain compatibility with existing color systems and equipment and provide systems for backwards compatibility with older color systems.

A near-eye display for displaying an image to a viewer has enhanced laser efficiency and enhanced eye-safety features. The display includes a laser source which generates one or more laser spots and a scan driver which scans the laser spots across an image field. The electrical energy consumption is minimized by modulating the laser source at 3 power levels —a near-zero level, a near-threshold level, and a lasing level—and by synchronizing the modulation with the scan driver. In another embodiment, the laser module generates two or more laser spots which scan non-overlapping lines on the image field. The scanning is configured to prevent the light intensity at the eye of a viewer from exceeding eye-safety levels, even in the event of a scanning malfunction.

A head-up display device includes: light sources; a light source driver that drives the light sources; a second control unit that illuminates the light sources via the light source driver on the basis of illumination control data; and a DMD display element that generates display light on the basis of illumination light emitted by the light sources. The illumination control data includes control modes for generating the illumination light brightness corresponding to a requested brightness. The control modes have differing brightness ranges, which partially overlap each other. The second control unit switches modes between the control modes when the requested brightness has reached a mode switching value, which is located in a non-end part of an overlapping region where one of the brightness ranges of one of the control modes and another one of the brightness ranges of another one of the control modes overlap.

Capacitive-based determination of micromirror status

A digital micromirror device includes a plurality of micromirror cells on a semiconductor die. Each respective cell includes a memory circuit and an electrode selection circuit. At least some of the micromirror cells include a micromirror and each respective memory circuit controls a micromirror tilt angle. For a given memory circuit controlled to a first tilt angle, a measurement circuit measures a first value indicative of a capacitance between a first electrode and the micromirror and measures a second value indicative of a capacitance on the second electrode. For a second micromirror tilt angle, the measurement circuit measures a third value indicative of a capacitance between the first electrode and the micromirror and measures a fourth value indicative of a capacitance on the second electrode. The measurement circuit generates a signal indicative of whether the micromirror is stuck at a particular angle or missing.

A logic circuit that can output a stream of sequential values, representing pixel position values, for a pixelated display device such as a spatial light modulator. The logic circuit may comprise an advanced integrated circuit such as a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) or an application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC). The stream of sequential values that is output by the logic circuit can be used by another logic circuit to calculate corresponding values of a software function, for populating those pixels of the pixelated display device. The software function can be, for example, a lens function or a grating function, which might be combined with a hologram, such as a computer-generated hologram (CGH), for display on the pixelated display device.

Disclosed are systems and methods for adaptively adjusting brightness of a wearable device projection system. The systems and methods perform operations comprising: causing projection elements of the AR wearable device to project an image; receiving a measure of ambient light from an ambient light sensor; adjusting one or more hardware parameters of the projection elements of the AR wearable device based on the measure of ambient light; modifying one or more color values of the image displayed by the projection elements of the AR wearable device based on the measure of ambient light; and projecting the image with the modified color values using the projection elements of the AR wearable device with the adjusted one or more hardware parameters.
