Capacitively operated microwave assisted magnetic recording oscillator
An apparatus includes a write pole that stores data on tracks on a data storage medium. The apparatus also includes side shields on first and second sides of the write pole, and a trailing shield above the write pole and above the side shields. The apparatus further includes a microwave assisted magnetic recording oscillator having conductive pads that form capacitors with portions of a conductive film of the data storage medium. The conductive pads are positioned on a medium-facing surface of a slider that includes the write pole, the side shields and the trailing shield.

Atomic Scale Data Storage Device by Means of Atomic Vacancy Manipulation
The present invention is in the field of an atomic scale data storage device which uses vacancy manipulation, a method of providing said device, and a method of operating said device. Prior art mass data storage devices typically rely on magnetic materials forming discrete arrays or on nanoscale transistors. Further examples are e.g. optical systems such as a DVD and a compact disk. These devices and systems have a large, but for some applications still limited, storage capacity.
Magnetic disk device and write processing method
According to one embodiment, a magnetic disk device includes a disk, a head for writing data to the disk and reading data from the disk, and a controller configured to detect a positioning error of the head as the head is writing the data in a first track of the disk, and change a first threshold value for interrupting the writing based on one or more evaluation values corresponding to a possibility of correcting error data in the first track of the disk. The controller interrupts the writing when detecting the positioning error of the head writing the first track that exceeds the first threshold value.
Electronic circuit and data storage system
A method of manufacturing an electronic circuit comprises: providing an electronic circuit having a first configuration in which the circuit comprises a resistive element having a first resistance, and irradiating at least a part of the resistive element with electromagnetic radiation to change the resistance of the resistive element from the first resistance to a second resistance, the second resistance being lower than the first resistance. A method of storing data comprises: receiving a piece of data to be stored; determining a number according to the data; and irradiating at least part of a resistive element with that number of pulses of electromagnetic radiation to change a resistance of the resistive element from a first resistance to a second resistance, the second resistance being lower than the first resistance. A difference between the first resistance and the second resistance is dependent on the number. Corresponding circuits and data storage systems are disclosed.

System and method for reading data recorded on ferroelectric storage medium by means of a near-field transducer
According to one embodiment, a system includes a head, where the head includes: an optical signal source configured to emit a first optical signal, and a near-field transducer (NFT) configured to focus the first optical signal on a moving ferroelectric storage medium positioned below the head. The system also includes a detector operatively coupled to the head, where the detector is configured to detect a second optical signal generated in and reflected from the ferroelectric storage medium, and where the second optical signal has twice the optical frequency as the first optical signal.
