SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CONDITIONING NEW LTO MEDIA
A tape drive (226) for use in a tape library (10) that retains at least one tape cartridge (220) that retains magnetic tape (250) includes a drive housing (226A) and a media conditioner (255). The drive housing (226A) is configured to receive the tape cartridge (220). The media conditioner (255) is coupled to the drive housing (226A). The media conditioner (255) is configured to condition the magnetic tape (250) when the tape cartridge (220) is received within the drive housing (226A). The media conditioner (255) can be configured to remove at least one of abrasives, contaminants and lubricants that are on the magnetic tape (250) when the tape cartridge (220) is received within the drive housing (226A). The magnetic tape (250) is configured to move along a predefined path (251) within the drive housing (226A), which is defined by one or more rollers (254). The rollers (254) can include a modified roller (270) having a roller body (274) and an outer coating (276) that is affixed on an outer surface (274A) of the roller body (274). The media conditioner (255) can include the modified roller (270).
TAPE DRIVE TENSION MANAGEMENT
A tape drive includes a plurality of rollers, a head, a tension sensor, and control circuitry. The rollers are spatially arranged within the tape drive to define a route for tape of a received data cartridge to travel from the received data cartridge to a tape reel. The head includes read elements and write elements configured to read from and write to the tape as tape of the received data cartridge travels along the route. The tension sensor is configured to measure tension of the tape as it travels along the route. The control circuitry is configured to cause a motor to impact the tension to keep the tape within a tension threshold.

Information processing apparatus and control method for information processing apparatus for transitioning from one power state to another power state
An information processing apparatus includes a power controller configured to perform one of first control, which, in response to the information processing apparatus transitioning from a second power state to a first power state, supplies electric power to a storage device and drives a spindle motor, and second control, which, in response to the information processing apparatus transitioning from the second power state to the first power state, supplies electric power to the storage device without driving the spindle motor, wherein, when the information processing apparatus is in the second power state, the power controller performs the first control based on a state controller receiving a first request signal, and the power controller performs the second control based on the state controller receiving a second request signal different from the first request signal.

Accurate skew determination for magnetic tapes experiencing the effects of tape dimensional instability
A computer-implemented method, according to one embodiment, includes: receiving a first timestamp in response to a first servo reader detecting a stripe of a first servo burst on the magnetic tape, and receiving a second timestamp in response to a second servo reader detecting a stripe of a second servo burst on the magnetic tape. A third timestamp is received in response to the first servo reader detecting a stripe of a third servo burst on the magnetic tape, while a fourth timestamp is received in response to the second servo reader detecting a stripe of a fourth servo burst on the magnetic tape. The first, second, third, and fourth timestamps are used to determine the skew of the magnetic tape. Further still, the first and third servo bursts are in a same first servo sub-frame, while the second and fourth servo bursts are in a same second servo sub-frame.
